From 3 November 2026, Science Centre Singapore is launching Glowing Oceans, Asia’s first full-scale living bioluminescence exhibition. Presented in partnership with US-based Popular Biology, Inc., the display features live dinoflagellates—single-celled marine plankton that emit a natural blue glow when they move.

The highlight of the experience is the Lagoon, a shallow body of water where visitors can step in wearing provided protective booties. As you walk across the water, the organisms respond to movement, creating glowing trails of blue light around your feet. Beyond stepping into the Lagoon, children can trace glowing patterns with their fingertips at Galaxy Tables, swirl water at Touch Tables and Tanks to watch the plankton light up, and observe them close-up inside Bubble Pods. There is also a Lab Area and Educational Cove where families can learn about the science behind why these marine organisms glow and how they are cared for.

BYKidO Tip: Please note that Glowing Oceans is a wet experience held in a limited-light environment. The exhibition is not suitable for children under 4 years of age, and children aged 4 and above must be supervised by an adult at all times.
