The National Library Board (NLB) is bringing back its annual Early READ Fiesta across selected regional and public libraries during the upcoming school holidays. Centred around the theme "Where Reading Meets Discovery", the free festival aims to foster an early love for books through hands-on play, sensory stations, creative tinkering, and interactive storytelling.

It is part of NLB's broader ReadSG movement, which encourages reading as a shared family habit. Beyond browsing books, young explorers can participate in guided activity stations, take a reading personality quiz, and collect a special gift to take home.

Interactive Activity Booths & Sensory Play Stations

To make reading accessible and fun for toddlers and preschoolers, the festival transforms library spaces into hands-on learning zones:

• Curious Minds Station: A touch-and-discover sensory zone designed for younger children to explore different textures, shapes, and concepts through guided play.

• Tinker Station: A creative crafting space where little ones can build, draw, and engage in simple hands-on projects tied to popular children's stories.

• Fiesta Adventure & Gift Redemption: Kids can complete a station-based activity map as they move through the library. Upon finishing the steps and borrowing four books on the same day (verified via physical receipt or the NLB Mobile App), children can redeem a special gift at the redemption booth while stocks last.

Storytelling Sessions, Local Authors & Fairy Tale Twists

Throughout the festival days, libraries will host a rotating lineup of stage programmes and interactive sessions:

• Meet Local Authors: Families can meet Singaporean children's book authors, hear the inspirations behind their books, and enjoy live readings of local stories.

• Community Storytelling: Healthcare professionals will lead special storytelling sessions, giving kids a look into how different community roles help care for others.

• Fairy Tales Reimagined: Interactive storytelling sessions will introduce familiar classic fairy tales from alternative character perspectives, encouraging critical thinking and imaginative discussions among young listeners.

Find Your Reading Style with the Book Buddy Quiz

Before heading down, parents and children can take the online Book Buddy Quiz. The short quiz helps identify your child's reading preferences and matches them with a "Book Buddy" character that recommends suitable book titles based on their specific interests.

Additionally, families visiting the #ReadSG Challenge booth during the Woodlands (14 November) or Punggol (21 November) sessions can earn bonus digital coins within the NLB ecosystem to track their family reading progress.
