Children's Day falls on 7th Oct 2022, and here are some of the activities to bring the children (and the young at heart) to celebrate their day!

You may recall that Children's Day falls on 1st of Oct, but this was changed in 2012 to the first Friday of October as it gives teachers and children a long weekend instead of a random day off. 

However, this brings up the issue of filling up 3 days with things to do for the kids! Here's a list of events happening that we hope will be helpful for parents needing to find ways to keep the kids occupied. 

1. Celebrate With Octoburst! @ Esplanade

Venue: Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

In conjunction with Children's Day, Esplanade presents Octoburst! – a children's festival that encourages artful play and fun for all. There will be a total of 9 onsite activities and 1 online one, including an opening performance by Singapore's first and only preschool marching band as well as a classical concert with Singapore's first and only orchestra for young musicians! Other to-dos include a beginner K-pop Dance Workshop, Performances, a Self-guided Hunt for PIP, and more - the best part is that it is all FREE!

2. Carnival Fun At Oasis Terrace & Canberra Plaza

Perhaps you remember Jurong Bird Park as a place of your childhood? Did you know that the park will be closed in 2023? Take a walk down memory lane and join in the festivities with "A Flight To Remember" as the park celebrates its final flight at its current Jurong premises before moving to Mandai.

6. Learn About Your Five Senses At A Chinese Carnival

Here's a fun and unique way to learn Chinese phases and vocabulary! On 7 Oct 2022, Union Book Store will be hosting a 'Five Senses Carnival' where kids will be introduced to the 5 senses through fun and games! Through different tasks at the 9 game booths at the carnival, children will pick up Chinese vocabulary and learn interesting facts about senses - including the importance of using the senses and sharing about those who have compromised senses. 

Children who complete the tasks at the game booths will also get to take home a prize as reward too! 

7. Visit Sentosa for Free & Get More Rewards Too

Known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, Deepavali is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. This year, the Indian Heritage Centre’s (IHC) Deepavali Open House extends over the Children's Day weekend and it will be a great opportunity to visit the centre and to celebrate the joyous occasion with an exciting array of programmes.

If you are lucky to get tickets, you can go on a special open-top bus tour of Little India on 8 Oct and to enjoy the festive light-up in the area or take in the sights and sounds via trishaw on 7 Oct on the Little India Trishaw Trail. Both activities cost just $10 per pax but limited seats are available. 

There are more festive happenings at the IHC where you can get a better understanding of Deepavali and the Indian culture too!

12. Go Bonding While Flying A Plane (Simulator)

Here's an interesting parent and child activity! Head down to Aeroviation and let dedicated instructors guide you and your child through the steps to fly an aircraft on the flight simulator - take over the controls and fly the aircraft on your own as well! We have done it and we believe you can too!

This 1 hour Flight Experience is suitable for parent and child, with a suggested age of 7 years and older. 

13. Drop By A Kid-Friendly Museum

15. Take Part In A LEGO Young Rebuilders Playdate

The LEGO Group, in partnership with the National Library Board (NLB) will have an interactive LEGO Young Rebuilders Playdate session held at library@harbourfront on 9 October. The session will be hosted by parenting coach Jacinth Liew (@ourlittleplaynest). Parents and their children can look forward to a fun-filled play date that encourages family playtime and creative problem-solving through building and rebuilding with LEGO bricks! During the event, the participants will be able to find specially curated books and recommended programmes by librarians.

Unfortunately, this event seems to be sold out - you may check here to see if new slots are open up. Otherwise, you may wish to look out for actress-parent Nurul Aini (@aanurul) and entrepreneur-parent Jerilyn Moon’s (@jerilynmoon) Instagram pages to sign up for exclusive LEGO Young Rebuilders Playdate sessions on 8 October that are organised specially for their followers, friends, and family. 

16. Visit The Harrowing Halloween 2 At Singapore Discovery Centre

While the haunted house and after-dark tours are recommended for 13 years old and above, families with younger kids can still enjoy the F&B/chill zone and drop-in craft activities at SDC too.

18. Kids Enter LEGOLAND Malaysia For Free This Children's Day

LEGO Monsters are taking over LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort this Halloween season. The annual Brick-or-Treat celebration presents the all-new Monster Party and this children's day is the best time to go down as kids enter free every Friday to Sunday from 7 Oct to 6 Nov 2022!

Simply come fully dressed in a Halloween costume and kids (3 - 11 years old) get to enter free with an accompanying adult holding a full-priced ticket.

19. Donate Your Preloved Books & Toys at Woods In The Book

Donate your preloved books and toys at Woods in the Books this Children’s Day Weekend! Bringing back their Children For Children Donation Drive for the 2nd year, Woods in the Books is looking to offer you an opportunity to celebrate Children's Day by sharing! 

Start a new tradition this Children's Day and encourage them to sort out their possessions and choose some items to give away (make sure they are clean and reusable books or toys in good condition). You can even write a note to the recipient too - example a simple “Thank You for adopting my toy”, “I hope you will enjoy my favourite bedtime story” or even a drawing is all it takes to make this act of giving more meaningful - not to mention, bring joy to the giver and the recipient!

22. Have Fun As A Family At The Beyond The Label Festival 2022

Beyond The Label Festival (BTL Fest) is happening on, 7 October 2022 (Fri), in conjunction with World Mental Health Day! Head down to the event that advocates for greater awareness surrounding the stigma experienced by Persons with Mental Health Conditions (PMHCs), and to promote greater help-seeking behaviour.

Families will also get to take part in fun-filled activities, such as a family amazing race, carnival games and educational workshops. These activities aim to promote better mental well-being and provide a safe space for participants to have conversations about mental health conditions and where to seek help.
