Remember when Children's Day was celebrated on 1st October? Since 2012, the date has shifted to the first Friday of October, giving teachers and children a well-deserved long weekend instead of just a day off.

With a three-day weekend to fill, many parents may be wondering how to keep their little ones entertained. To make things easier, we've put together a list of exciting events and activities to help you plan a fun-filled weekend for the kids.

Octoburst! 2026 – A Children’s Festival at Esplanade

Octoburst! – A Children’s Festival returns to Esplanade this Children’s Day with an inclusive, accessible lineup of arts experiences for kids of all ages and abilities. The one-day festival invites young ones to become active storytellers, creators, and performers through live storytelling, interactive music, and hands-on crafts.

Highlights for families include:

• The Story Keeper’s Room (Esplanade White Room): An installation and pop-up storytelling sessions by Zip Zap Zoom Collective featuring stories created by children across Singapore (10am – 6pm; live sessions at 12pm, 2pm, 3.30pm & 5pm). Best for ages 4 and up.

• The Color-Your-Mood Flower Studio! (Esplanade Concourse): A guided craft station by WahSoSimple where kids can fold, cut, and craft paper flowers inspired by their emotions to take home (10am – 6pm). Best for ages 5 and up.

• Come and Play – Sports Day! (Esplanade Lawn): Energising, non-competitive team games led by artist Cheryl Ho designed to get kids moving together (10am, 11.45am, 3pm & 5.15pm). Recommended for ages 6 and up.

• The Feelings Farm: Live in Concert! (DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre): An evening concert at 6pm and 8pm led by composer Julian Wong, featuring popular songs and poetry from Esplanade's hit production The Feelings Farm. Suitable for all ages.

Throughout the day, families can also enjoy mass sing-alongs, choir performances, dance sessions, special dining promotions at Esplanade Mall, and PIP’s Club member gifts.

This Children's Day, McDonald’s Singapore is putting choice into the hands of little ones with its special "My McDonald’s, My Way" initiative, running from 24 Sep to 7 Oct 2026. Designed to give kids the joy of making their own decisions, the celebration lets children build their own perfect meal and introduces a fun interactive activity for families dining in! 

Children will ge to build the perfect meal! With Build My Meal, allows kids get to mix and match their ideal 3-item combination using their favourite items! This gives them the freedom to pair their main with treats that are not usually part of standard kids' set meals, such as choosing a main with a Sundae or an Oreo® McFlurry® alongside a side or drink.

That's not all! Families can also participate in the Promise Bookmark activity at participating McDonald's restaurants to receive a free Vanilla Cone!

Start planning for a fun family-friendly Halloween celebrations over the Children's Day weekend! 

Downtown East and BYKidO are bringing a month of Halloween fun to Pasir Ris with The Great Pumpkin Trail. Running every weekend from 3 to 31 October 2026, across the Children's Day weekend, the event invites children aged 12 and under to complete simple Halloween-themed activities across participating stores.

Pick up a trail card at the E!Avenue Level 1 Information Counter, spot the pumpkin markers at various shops, and collect stamps by taking part in hands-on activities like solving math puzzles at EduFirst, beating the clock in an active 'Floor Is Lava' game at INMERS, or 'feeding' the hungry pumpkin at Tayo Station. A

Collecting at least three stamps allows children to redeem an exclusive orange Trick-or-Treat Pumpkin Bucket at the E!Avenue Level 2 Information Counter, ready to be filled during the celebrations.

The festivities culminate in a Grand Halloween Finale on Saturday, 31 October. Families can head out on a free mall-wide trick-or-treat trail to collect goodies like caramel popcorn, ice cream, candies, and enrichment vouchers from participating outlets. Children and parents are also encouraged to come in costume to take part in the Best Dressed Costume Competition, with top prizes including a D’Resort staycation with a private BBQ pit, Wild Wild Wet passes, and NTUC Club cash vouchers.

BYKidO Tip: Free guided trick-or-treat sessions are held at 5.00pm and 7.00pm on 31 October. Slots are limited, so be sure to register online in advance. If you prefer a quieter pace, you can also use your pumpkin bucket to trick-or-treat independently at participating outlets throughout the day.

Arkki Children's Big Day Out

If you are looking for a creative afternoon out to celebrate Children’s Day, Arkki is hosting a free, family-focused event at KADA @ Maxwell. The Arkki Children’s Big Day Out! combines hands-on design challenges with classic holiday treats and entertainment for an easy weekend outing.

Families can team up for The Ultimate Family Build & Beat Challenge, where parents and kids work together to design and test large-scale structures, competing for prizes. Organised by a local father in partnership with children’s charity Playeum, Born To Play: A Family Playdate is a free community play experience bringing families together over the 10 and 11 October 2026 weekend.

Designed to help parents slow down and reconnect with their young ones, each 1.5-hour session invites children and caregivers to engage in child-led, open-ended play. The experience follows a structured flow—starting with a gentle "magic portal" check-in, followed by 50 minutes of unstructured exploration across four activity stations: building in the DIY Cardboard Playground, crafting in Nature Play, printing patterns at Karang Guni Prints, or taking a breather inside The Whispering Tent.

Before wrapping up, facilitators share practical playmaking techniques parents can use at home, closing with a collaborative feedback wall where kids and adults can leave their thoughts.

The Mischief Within at Curiosity Cove

Curiosity Cove at Mandai Wildlife Reserve is hosting its inaugural Halloween event, The Mischief Within, where young Ranger Buddies can help characters Al and Min solve a playful indoor mystery across two distinct experiences.

During the day, the Boo-tiful Day programme runs from 10 am to 5.30 pm, offering carnival-style games like Mischief Knockdown and Pumpkin Blast (included with standard admission). Kids can also craft a Neon Glow Painting or Glow Night Lamp ($6 per craft or $15 for 3), or purchase a pre-filled candy bag ($6) to trick-or-treat with roving crew members around the playscape. Completing activities earns stamps on a Quest Card to redeem an exclusive Halloween badge.

On selected weekend nights, Curiosity Cove transforms into an after-dark adventure with Sundown sessions from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm. This is a relaxed environment performance where rules are eased. Audiences are allowed to freely enter and exit the concert hall when needed.
