Between school runs, work demands, and daily routines, finding time to simply pause and play alongside our children isn't always easy. Taking place over the weekend of 10 and 11 October 2026, Born To Play: A Family Playdate is a free community event at Fernvale Community Club created to help parents slow down, follow their children’s lead, and reconnect through open-ended play.

Initiated by local father of two, Jiarong in partnership with children’s charity Playeum, this ground-up community initiative offers a welcoming environment for around 400 children and their caregivers.

Suitable for 6 years old and below (siblings aged eight and below are also welcome to join), the event is designed specifically to support families navigating the early years of parenthood, the playdate aims to offer a comfortable space where parents can enjoy meaningful interactions with their children while connecting with other families in the neighbourhood.

Four Hands-On Play Experiences

Each session begins with a short, playful check-in to help families transition into a child-led mindset before exploring four dedicated stations filled with open-ended materials:

• DIY Cardboard Playground: Children and parents can work together to design and build imaginative structures using recycled cardboard and simple crafting tools.

• Nature Play: A tactile zone where leaves, twigs, seeds, and other natural items are transformed into portraits, animals, and open-ended creations.

• Karang Guni Prints: A creative printmaking corner using paint and everyday recycled items as tools to experiment with patterns and textures.

• The Whispering Tent: A quieter, calm space designed for children and adults to step away, rest, and regulate if the main play area becomes overly stimulating.

Practical Takeaways for Home

Rather than focusing on finished products or strict rules, the event emphasizes playmaking approaches that parents can easily replicate at home without expensive toys giving parents practical takeaways to use at home. Throughout the session, caregivers will discover practical ways to follow their child's lead, embrace repetition and creative mess, and support big emotions during everyday play.

Admission and Event Details

Born To Play takes place at the Multi-Purpose Hall at Fernvale Community Club (Level 4). There are 4 sessions for families to choose from 

• Saturday, 10 Oct: Session 1 (1.30pm–3.00pm) | Session 2 (3.30pm–5.00pm)

• Sunday, 11 Oct: Session 3 (10.00am–12.00pm) | Session 4 (1.30pm–3.30pm)

Activities are suitable for kids 6 years old and below, and siblings aged 8 and below are also welcome to join in too. 

Admission is completely free, but pre-registration is required due to limited space per session. Walk-ins will only be admitted if capacity allows on the day.
