What is happening?
Multi-sensory stamps? Scoff. Or at least that would have been my reaction had you asked me yesterday. And if your reaction was anything like mine, do I have an eye-opener for you or rather Singapore Philatelic Museum’s newest addition does.
Titled 'You’ve Got Mail!', the 2-part exhibition features captivating penmanship, creative envelopes and quirky stamps, kindling nostalgic feelings of penning a letter.
Art on Envelope: Send Your Love the Write Way showcases over 200 handcrafted envelopes from the Washington Calligraphers Guild's annual Graceful Envelope Contest, once again proving that creativity has no limit and art has no boundary.
The workmanship, dedication and time that goes into the making of these envelopes are truly praiseworthy.
While there were so many beautiful envelopes, these two in particular stole my heart.
Seeing is Believing! Unusual Stamps is a display of, as its name suggests, unusual stamps. From the young to the young at heart will love this because who doesn’t love an interactive exhibit? About stamps no less.
From the world’s first beaded stamp from Singapore, phonograph record stamp from Bhutan, and world’s first chocolate scented stamps from Switzerland to lenticular stamps playing reruns of Star Trek, 150 stamps have been put on show.
Behold the various scented stamps, from Strawberry to Kaffir Lime!
Discover stamps made from various materials such as gold foil, leather, cork, and even salt!
Season-forecasting stamps that you can try it out for yourself! A side note, this activity can be addictive.
Did you know that this stamp supposedly tastes like sweet and sour pork? Of course there is no way of testing this as you are not allowed to taste the stamps for preservation and hygiene reasons. Which is a bit of a shame.
