Happening at the Esplanade Theatre Studio till 21 Aug 2022, PLAYtime! Together is an interactive performance for families that is sure to delight!
Synopsis
Gor Gor and Mei Mei are stuck at home and bored. Unlike the past when they could go outdoors and play with their friends, they are becoming restless from having to stay indoors all the time. Even though mummy is working from home, she is swamped with endless online meetings and they have to be quiet so that they do not bother her. With no iPad nor a chance to leave their home, where else can they go to have fun?
Join the siblings as they go on an adventure and discover new ways to play together. Using the power of imagination, they give new meaning to spaces and everyday objects in their home. Follow them as they travel through whimsical worlds and meet funny creatures and characters along the way as they play freely together within the confines of their HDB flat.
Together is a theatre performance that focuses on how little ones can engage in unstructured play and how imaginative play can transcend boundaries and challenges. Shining a light on sibling relationships, journey along with the pair as they encourage each other and show moments of empathy and understanding as they navigate the challenges and struggles of the 'new normal'.
Relaxed Performance
All performances are relaxed performance, that is a performance that has been adapted in particular ways which make it more accessible for children, including those who are on the autism spectrum, as well as children with sensory or communication conditions or learning disabilities.
Our Thoughts
Thanks to the Esplanade for the invite to experience the show. As a kid-friendly interactive play, we must say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable session for both the kids and adults.
The setting of the play was very timely - particularly with the recent COVID-19 pandemic when parents had to work-from-home and kids had to stay home. As such, we believe that most families - especially those with multiple kids - will definitely be able to relate to the show.
The show is recommended for 3 to 6 years old and open to all ages, we feel that it is most suitable for children aged between 5 to 6 years as they will be able to better understand the plot and dialogue therefore, better able to engage/participate in the session more meaningfully.
With that being said, the interactive performance also involves the creative use of puppets and props, which will definitely be a hit with the younger kids (i.e., those below the age of 5) too.
Do note that audiences will be sitting on the floor for the performance too.
