MODU Samgyetang: The Hermès of Samgyetang at Mandarin Gallery

A premium, restorative Korean dining experience at Mandarin Gallery featuring 12-hour slow-boiled Samgyetang that is perfect for a nourishing family meal.

If you are looking for a meal that does more than just fill tummies, MODU Samgyetang at Mandarin Gallery is a must-visit. As Singapore’s first and only premium Samgyetang specialty restaurant, it moves away from the typical frantic mall dining and into a serene, "Modern Hanok" space.

For parents, this is the ultimate "Family Meal Idea" when you need to recharge. Whether the kids are feeling a bit run down or you’re looking for a wholesome alternative to greasy fast food, MODU’s 12-hour slow-boiled broths are packed with collagen and immunity-boosting herbs. It is the pinnacle of boyang-sik (restorative cuisine), traditionally used to replenish energy and improve stamina.

The New Star: Nokdu (Mung Bean) Samgyetang

MODU has just introduced the Nokdu Samgyetang ($38), which is a fantastic entry point for families. In Korean tradition, mung beans are recognized for protecting the liver, calming the mind, and promoting healthy skin—perfect for modern individuals (and busy parents!) exposed to daily fatigue.

Unlike some traditional herbal soups that can feel "heavy" or overly medicinal, the mung beans create a lighter, cleaner, and subtly nutty broth. It is specifically designed to be revitalising and easy on the stomach—ideal for children or parents who want a nutrient-dense meal that won't leave them feeling sluggish for the rest of the afternoon.

Six Varieties of Healing Soup

Every bowl features tender young spring chicken and glutinous rice, but you can choose a base that suits your family's specific needs:

  • The Signature Choice: The Hanbang Samgyetang ($35) uses a blend of traditional herbs and jujube, slow-cooked to perfection.

  • For the Health-Conscious: The Black Chicken Samgyetang ($37) uses premium black chicken, known for higher nutritional value and leaner meat.

  • For the Creamy Lovers: The Perilla Seed Samgyetang ($38) offers a milky, antioxidant-rich broth that kids often find very palatable due to its smooth texture.

  • For Mum’s Glow: The Beauty Collagen Samgyetang ($37) includes goji berries and houttuynia for skin health and immunity.

  • For the Spicy Palate: The Hangover Samgyetang ($37) is a revitalising, spicy version for parents needing a serious sensory wake-up call.

More Than Just Soup: Kid-Friendly Sides & Starters

While the 12-hour broth is the main event, the menu is packed with family-friendly "shareables" that will keep the kids happy:

  • Crispy Bites: The Potato Pancakes and Corn Fries are sure hits with younger diners. For a bit of crunch, try the Enoki Mushroom Fries or the Chicken Gizzard Popcorn.

  • Noodle Alternatives: If your little one prefers noodles over rice, the Dakkalguksu (nourishing chicken noodle soup) is a comforting, familiar option.

  • The Sweet Finish: Don't leave without trying the Black Sesame or Pistachio Ice Cream. For a traditional touch, the Gotgam Mari (dried persimmon roll) is a delicate, healthy treat.

A Serene, Inclusivity-Focused Atmosphere

The restaurant itself is a calm sanctuary amidst the hustle of Orchard Road. With only 40 seats, it feels exclusive rather than crowded. The interior blends warm wood tones, organic elements, and soft ambient lighting to recreate the elegance of a traditional Korean Hanok house.

Crucially for many families, MODU is committed to inclusivity; all dishes are 100% pork-free and lard-free, crafted with only the finest organic ingredients.

BYKidO Pro-Tip: Because the restaurant has limited seating (only 40 seats!), we highly recommend booking ahead. If you have a larger family or a sleeping infant in a stroller, try to snag one of the Private VIP rooms. They offer stunning views of Orchard Road and provide a bit more privacy and "wiggle room" compared to the counter-dining seats.
