About Hone Bakes
From 18 September to 13 October 2024, Baker X welcomes Hone Bakes (@hones.bakes) as the next baker in residence. Look forward to Gateau Cakes, Chiffon Cakes, Cookies, Sourdough Bagels and more curated by the mother-daughter duo. Chew Yi En and her mother founded Hone Bakes, a bakery inspired by their shared passion for baking. To pursue her longstanding dream of becoming a home baker, Yi En took a bold leap of faith by leaving her full-time job. She then asked her mother to join her on this journey, working towards their shared dream of opening a café one day. The duo specialises in crafting chiffon cakes, gateau cakes, and all things sourdough.
About Baker X
Launched in December 2021 by Far East Organization, Baker X aims to support home-based bakers by providing them with an opportunity to have first-hand experience running a brick-and-mortar storefront and interacting with customers face-to-face with a fully fitted baking studio and a 20-seater café. Patrons can dine in or takeaway the baked goods at the café on Level 4 of Orchard Central (opposite Genki Sushi). The café is operated in tandem with social enterprise, Tea Ideas. There will be a line-up of bakers throughout the year, and each baker will be in residence for between 2 to 6 weeks.
Gateau Cakes
Their crowd-favourite gateau cakes are available in a variety of flavours. The Matcha Black Sesame Gateau Cake ($12) boasts a rich matcha and black sesame base, layered with chewy black sesame mochi, fragrant matcha ganache and thick black sesame cream. The cake is then finished with matcha crumbles for added textural delight.
Savour the Lemon Pistachio Gateau Cake ($11.50), where each bite reveals a refreshing blend of tangy lemon and nutty pistachio.
Making its debut at Baker X is Hone Bakes’ exclusive Tiramisu Gateau Cake ($13). This bake is made with a Chocolate Gateau and Hazelnut Feulletine base, layered with coffee ganache, coffee-soaked lady fingers, and creamy mascarpone, elegantly finished with a dusting of cocoa powder.
Chiffon Cakes
Not to be missed are their chiffon cakes, presented in two intriguing varieties. The Stuffed Pandan Gula Melaka Chiffon Cake ($6.50) features a light chiffon base complemented by smooth taro paste, fluffy cream, and gula melaka coconut shreds.
The airy Stuffed Orange Chiffon Cake ($6.50) is adorned with lemon curd, lemon zest, light cream, and fresh fruits, delivering a harmonious mix of sweet, tangy, and creamy notes.
Sourdough Bagels
Hone Bakes also brings to Baker X the newest creation on their menu – the signature Sourdough Bagels (from $3.80) that are crispy on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside. Be spoilt for choice with options such as Black Sesame, Charcoal Taro, Olive Cheese, and Mixed Seeds.
Delight in savoury treats such as the Chicken Curry Sourdough Bagel ($5.50) and Pumpkin Sourdough Bagel with Chicken Floss ($5.20). The former delivers a kick of heat with aromatic chicken curry spices, while the latter is their unique take on the classic chicken floss bun with a slight tanginess from sourdough.
