Fans of Japanese animation can look forward to a massive cultural experience coming to Singapore this year. The Story of Studio Ghibli, an immersive walk-through exhibition showcasing iconic scenes and characters from the globally acclaimed animation studio, will celebrate its world premiere at Gardens by the Bay on 18 December 2026.

Spanning nearly 3,500 square metres across the West Lawn, the Singapore edition marks the largest presentation of the exhibition to date. Visitors will journey through 12 life-sized recreated worlds from beloved films, including My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and The Boy and the Heron.

Step Inside 12 Life-Sized Studio Ghibli Worlds

The exhibition brings iconic animated scenes to life through large-scale installations, interactive multimedia, and atmospheric projections across a sprawling indoor layout.

Families can wander through 12 recreated environments, encountering key film moments in person:

  • My Neighbor Totoro: Stand beside Totoro at the bus stop while waiting for the Catbus.

  • Spirited Away: Explore the mysterious, lantern-lit streets and view a world-first, eight-metre-tall three-dimensional recreation of the iconic bathhouse.

  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: Come face-to-face with a majestic, life-sized Ohmu.

  • Princess Mononoke: Walk through the mystical forest brought to life via scale environments and immersive visual displays.

Interactive Multimedia & Educational Elements

Designed for visitors across generations, the walkthrough experience features interactive installations that place guests at the heart of each story. Beyond visual recreations, the exhibition highlights core themes central to Studio Ghibli’s storytelling, such as environmental stewardship, resilience, creativity, and kindness.

Educational initiatives and learning opportunities are currently being developed to complement the showcase, with additional details to be released closer to the opening date.
