More than 7,000 vibrant orchids and massive handwoven mythical creature sculptures land at the Flower Dome, offering a stunning cultural escape perfect for family photos.

Venue: Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay
Dates: Till 10 Aug 2026
Admission: Tickets to Flower Dome apply

Gardens by the Bay has launched its annual orchid display inside the Flower Dome, and this year the spotlight shines brightly on the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Indonesia. Orchid Extravaganza: Rhythm of the Rainforest, running until 10 August 2026, is an incredible visual treat. It serves as an excellent educational experience for children to learn about Southeast Asian geography, folklore, and nature right here in Singapore.

As part of the massive Singapore Garden Festival returning to the Gardens, families can look forward to exploring a vibrant rainforest landscape packed with giant handwoven sculptures, traditional houses, and some of the world's most unique flowers.

Active Exploring & Cultural Highlights

The display is designed like an adventure through the diverse regions of the Indonesian archipelago. Children will love spotting the larger-than-life architectural and cultural recreations hidden among the flowers.

Giant Handwoven Anyaman Sculptures

Keep your eyes peeled for nine massive sculptures handcrafted by a team of 27 Balinese artisans using anyaman, a centuries-old traditional Indonesian weaving technique. Kids will be amazed by the scale of these natural structures, which depict:

  • A pair of mythical nagas (dragons) flanking a traditional Balinese split gateway (candi bentar).

  • Intricate representations of a Komodo dragon, a critically endangered Sumatran tiger, hornbills, and a peacock.

  • Towering ondel-ondel puppets, which are ceremonial figures from Jakarta's indigenous Betawi community.

Traditional Indonesian Architecture

Introduce your little ones to regional building styles with impressive life-sized replicas scattered throughout the dome, including:

  • Batak Communal Houses: Fascinating, sweeping saddle-shaped roofs traditionally built entirely without nails to withstand earthquakes.

  • Uma Mbatangu: Dramatic peaked houses from Sumba featuring high central towers.

  • Wayang Kulit & Dayak Guardian Poles: Beautiful nods to Indonesia's shadow puppet traditions and protective spirit carvings from Borneo.

Incredible Native Orchids to Spot

With Indonesia being home to over 5,000 orchid species, the Flower Dome has curated a selection of the country's most storied and fascinating flowers. Turn your visit into a fun scavenger hunt by getting the kids to find these specific highlights:

  • The Antelope Orchid: Easily recognisable by its twisted, upright petals that look exactly like an antelope's horns.

  • The Tiger Orchid: The undisputed heavyweight champion of the flower world! This is the world's largest orchid species, featuring massive flower spikes over two metres tall packed with yellow and maroon spots.

  • The Moon Orchid: One of Indonesia's national flowers, displaying elegant, broad white blooms.

  • The Ground Orchid: A tough magenta flower famous for being one of the very first plants to naturally grow back on the volcanic island of Krakatau after its historic 1883 eruption.

Bonus: The Singapore Orchid Show (Limited Dates)

If you visit early, your entry ticket gives you double the value. From 4 to 12 July 2026, the Flower Dome is also hosting the Singapore Orchid Show within the Mediterranean and South American Gardens.

It features 360 competitive orchid entries from top regional growers, including 48 spectacular award-winning plants grown right here by the talented horticulturists at Gardens by the Bay. It is a fantastic opportunity to show kids what world-class gardening looks like.
