Are you looking for a way to keep the kids entertained during the year-end holidays without breaking the bank? Science Centre Singapore has prepared the perfect festive solution. This December, they are inviting families to step into a secret "Elf HQ" to help prepare a surprise party for Santa.
Sci-sational Christmas transforms the Science Centre halls into a bustling workshop where children become honorary elves. It is a brilliant mix of festive storytelling and hands-on science that keeps little hands busy and curious minds engaged.
Here is a peek at what to expect and why this fantastic event should be on your December to-do list.
Sci-Sational Christmas Highlight: 5 Missions at Elf HQ
The highlight of the visit is undoubtedly the interactive stations located in Halls D & E. The narrative is engaging: the elves are throwing a surprise party for Santa, and they need help getting everything ready before he returns.
Families can jump into five themed stations, each disguising a fascinating scientific concept as a party preparation task. The best part? There is no extra fee for participation; these activities are all part of your Science Centre Singapore admission.
Here is what you can expect at each stop:
1. Christmas Presents (Light & Optics)

Help create an “enchanted” gift that changes colour! Guests will be layering polarising films and transparent tapes to create an art piece that changes colours as the films are rotated. It creates an instant "wow" moment that looks like magic but is actually science.
At this station, guests are learning about birefringence (how some materials double-refract light) and polarisation. They will get to bring home the pocket-sized art piece that they can use to impress friends and family at holiday dinners.
2. Wrapping Paper Station (Hydrophobicity & Hydrophilicity)

Time to design a unique wrapping paper worthy of an elf party. Using a technique called paper marbling, children dot vibrant inks on the water surface and use a skewer to drag the colours into swirls. They will then dip a piece of paper into water to transfer their unique pattern onto the paper!
The activity is a beautiful demonstration of hydrophobicity & hydrophilicity. Bring home a one-of-a-kind sheet of marbled wrapping paper!
3. Let It Glow! (Phosphorescence)
Create dazzling decorations that glow in the dark! Kids will craft their own Christmas ornaments and walk through a dark dome to watch their creations shine brightly.
This station explains the different types of glow such as fluorescence, phosphorescence, biofluorescence and bioluminescence. Through fun hands-on activities, these complex concepts become easy to understand.
Bring home your very own glow-in-the-dark ornament to hang on your Christmas tree!
4. The Periodic Party (Chemistry)

The elf kitchen is in a panic! Help them decode the missing ingredients for the feast. This turns chemistry into a puzzle game. Children match everyday ingredients like butter, sugar, and salt to their respective mineral components on a friendly periodic table to complete the chef’s recipes.
This experience shows children that chemistry is in our daily lives, providing an approachable first step into understanding the periodic table through the science hidden in the food we eat.
5. Music greeting card
Create your own Christmas music card using simple circuitry and a festive sound module! Tinker, build, and decorate as you learn how music comes to life through electronics. Take home your handmade card to gift family and loved ones, sharing both creativity and holiday cheer.
Mission Accomplished - The Ultimate Reward
Once all stations are complete, children can present their stamped card to unlock a blind-box badge. It is a collectible keepsake that marks their success in pulling off the ultimate surprise for Santa.

While you are there, you should definitely take advantage of the final month of the Omni-Theatre's special pricing. This is a rare chance to experience Southeast Asia's first 8K dome theatre at a fraction of the usual cost.
