ArtScience Museum will be presenting The World of Studio Ghibli, from 4 Oct 2024 to 2 Feb 2025. This will be Studio Ghibli’s first ever showcase in Singapore and also one of the largest editions to date. The World of Studio Ghibli was first presented in Japan back in 2013, and moved on to South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.

The World of Studio Ghibli at the ArtScience Museum is one of the largest editions to date – spanning 2,400 square metres, across 11 galleries, featuring the world of 11 famous Ghibli films. 

Featuring 16 large-scale interactive theatrical sets from various iconic Ghibli films, families and fans will get to meet their favourite characters and immerse themselves into various Ghibli films - waiting in the rain with Totoro, entering the Howl's Moving Castle or hopping on a train ride with No-Face.

Art of the Brick Returns to Singapore

Coming back bigger and better after its first appearance in more than a decade, be sure to be captivated at the Art of the Brick exhibit by artist Nathan Sawaya and discover more than 150 sculptures made of LEGO® bricks.

After touring over 100 cities in 24 countries and entering CNN's list of “Must-See” exhibitions, Art of the Brick is coming back to Singapore since its first appearance back in 2012. The exhibit immerses the visitor in a cheerful and colorful world. The artist used more than a million bricks for this exhibition!

Kidztropic opens their second outlet at Annex@Furama! This new play space, Kidztropic Cove offers a space for young ones (below 6 years old) to engage in both structured and unstructured activities, encouraging children to learn through exploration, creativity and imaginative play. 

At Kidztropic Cove, you won't find massive play structures or energetic play. Instead, Kidztropic Cove allows young ones to engage in imaginative play with a big space with little toys around. There will be different types of toys in different areas to let little ones play with. 

Little ones can play pretend in the little Kopitiam with a local twist, or drive along the road that runs through the playgrounds. There's also a little ball pit that young ones can jump into too!

The play area has been designed to allow lots of open space with little fixed structures. This allows kids and parents to move around freely, and even to bring toys around as they play.

Tipsy Unicorn is thrilled to debut its Minicorn Club, offering parents a new option to pamper their children, ages three to eight, with engaging workshops and activities every Sunday.

While parents unwind with refreshing drinks and catch up with friends and spouses, children can explore the magical Euphoria Suite on the second level, which overlooks the stage, pool, and beach. 

The fun doesn’t stop there! Expert facilitators from The Creative Nook will lead an array of activities, including storytelling, dramatisation, arts and crafts, music and movement, sing-alongs, and sensory play. There will also be balloon sculpting and magic shows! Kids will have a chance to design their own T-shirts to take home and snap fun photos at the puppet photo booth with props provided.

The New Learning Gallery at Singapore Art Museum

Established as part of the Singapore Art Museum’s continued support of art education, the Learning Gallery invites you to look deeper and immerse yourself in the artworks and interactive activities to form authentic and personal connections with the artworks.

Inspired by the carefree spirit of childhood, vsitors may embrace their childlike spirit even before entering the gallery. Starting from the outside, adult visitors will be greeted by a letter addressed to their inner child, prompting them to approach the exhibition with an open mind and tap into the formative experiences of their childhood. After entering the gallery, they are invited to experience the artworks in their own special way. 

The gallery is designed as an escape from the rapid pace and complexity of modern life with a low-stimulation and calm environment which makes it ideal for visitors to reflect and focused on learning.

Families who did not manage to get tickets to the National Day Parade 2024 (NDP 2024), here's another chance to join in the celebrations in the Heartlands Celebrations happening the next day on 10 August 2024! 

Families can enjoy crowd favourites such as fireworks, interactive family-friendly activities and static displays of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicles. Various schools, ActiveSG’s Dance of the Nation and Yellow Ribbon Performing Arts Centre (PAC) Alumni band as well as community interest groups will put up live entertainment too! Each site will showcase military and civil defence by having vehicles on display. 

From 12 July 2024 onwards, families can collect the National Day Heartland Celebrations tickets for their district at their nearest Community Clubs/ Centres. Each member of the public can collect up to a maximum of two tickets, while stocks last. The list of CCs where tickets can be collected can be found here.

Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert 2024

Back for the sixth edition, the Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert will be happening on 4 Aug from 7.30 pm to 10 pm. 

Get ready to be serenaded by this year’s headliner, renowned songstress Olivia Ong. She will perform 如燕 (Like a Swallow), the iconic theme song for Mediacorp’s hit drama The Little Nyonya, as well as her latest tune 光影 (Azure) in a special debut. You can also look forward to the exciting performances of various National Day Parade (NDP) theme songs including this year’s Not Alone by local singer and composer Benjamin Kheng, as well as previous NDP hits, Stronger Together and Breathing City, by Singapore Idols Taufik Batisah and Sezairi, respectively.

From 4.30pm you can enjoy a wide range of activities including go-kart races, and nostalgic carnival games such as bottle ring toss and knock ‘em down. You can also expect to be wow-ed by entertaining acts from stilt walkers and roving jugglers!

Celebrate Singapore’s birthday at the National Museum of Singapore's National Celebrations with various activities such as outdoor and inflatable playgrounds featuring iconic local HDB playground designs, drop-in craft activities, intergenerational programmes and our popular scavenger hunt at the museum. Don’t forget to check out Play:Date and reminisce about the joy of playing with toys as a child. 

End the day with a “picnic under the stars” and catch the live outdoor screening of the National Day Parade on the museum’s front lawn. In the lead-up to National Day, look out for special light-up installations on the museum's lawn that take us back to our childhood days.

From 9 to 11 August, Singaporeans can mark National Day at Majulah Fiesta at the Singapore Sports Hub with the vibrant lineup of free events celebrating all things local.

On National Day, gather your loved ones to watch the National Day Parade broadcasted live at OCBC Square and Stadium Roar. Catch the “Fly Our Flag” flypast at Stadium Roar before a spectacular fireworks display at Stadium Riverside Walk to end the night! Do also check out the AL!VE Artisans Market packed with the crafts by local artisans, from 9 August all throughout the weekend at the Visitors Centre! 

The festivities continue on 10 August with the inaugural Majulah Music Hub – catch home-grown acts including MICappella, Ben Hum, Kelvin Chen Wei Lian, Tay Kewei, The Island Voices, and Benjamin Kheng. Rounding off the weekend, on 11 August, have a great workout at the Majulah Fiesta Fitness Party at OCBC Square and hang out with our feathered friends at Pets Play Day (Feathers Edition).

Celebrate our nation's 59th birthday with the illumination of four historical and culturally significant landmarks around the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct and watch them light up in the National Flag colours of red and white. 

For this year's edition, Armenian Church, Central Fire Station, St Joseph’s Church, and Stamford Walkway will join the tribute for the light up. These landmarks – three of which are National Monuments – take us on a journey through our shared heritage that reminds us of our national identity. 

This year's light-up will extend throughout the Singapore Night Festival until 7 September, aligning with the festival's theme of the "Art of Play." Pumping up the excitement will be four days of fun-filled activities, entertainment and freebies for the public such as stage performances, sports try-outs, arts & craft workshops, culinary workshops, fitness workouts, and free movie screenings.

On 8 Aug, get your family together and have fun at the Family Nerf Party while you race against time in this action-packed game where families of all abilities can join in the fun at the Community Auditorium 2 (12pm – 9pm).

On National Day, join celebrity hosts Fauzie Laily and Eswari Gunasagar for the ‘United Tampines’ Concert at the Town Square. The concert promises to be a dazzling affair featuring local contemporary orchestras with leading Singaporean vocalists such as the T’ang Quartet with Nick Zavior, Stringanza with singer Joi Chua, Orkestra Trio with Addy Cradle and Iskandar, as well as the Singapore Indian Orchestra and Choir.

In addition, there will be live broadcast of the National Day Parade 2024 with the State Flag Flypast which will begin from 5pm at the Town Square. The evening will end with dazzling fireworks.

The day promises nostalgia and fun, featuring activities for all ages. Challenge friends in classic lawn games like badminton, giant Jenga, or mini-golf, and enjoy traditional games such as Chapteh and Five Stones. Live musical performances from local artists will keep the atmosphere lively.

From 4 pm to 5 pm, join a community bike tour around the Central Buzz District. Led by a custom cargo bike with a solar-powered sound system and a seated DJ booth, the ride offers a unique way to explore Raffles Place with curated tunes from local DJ Leland. Free Anywheel bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, or bring your own bike.

Children can enjoy a dedicated play space from 4 pm to 9 pm with traditional local games and a creative workshop to make postcards inspired by Singapore.

Live music runs from 4 pm to 6:30 pm and 8:20 pm to 9 pm. At 6:30 pm, settle in for an outdoor screening of "Sing 2." In a departure from the previous shows that primarily featured solid color animations, this new show projects traditional hand-drawn illustrations and animations, reminiscent of a watercolour effect.

The 7th Month Festival is known by various names. Traditionally, Taoists call it Zhong Yuan Jie 中元节 but to the layman, it is the 7th Month Festival. To commemorate 20 years of championing Second Chances, the Yellow Ribbon Project will showcase a roving art exhibition, themed “Our Journey, Our Hope", via a mobile art truck for the first time.

The Moving HeARTs in the City exhibition will showcase a diverse range of artworks created by 43 inmates and 2 ex-offenders which includes canvas painting, pottery, and mixed media. It offers insights into their efforts and emotions as they progress through their rehabilitation journey, emphasising the theme of hope and their yearning for a second chance in life. It will visit schools, shopping malls, libraries, and places of interest, sharing stories of hope and second chances through art. 

On weekends, the Yellow Ribbon Performing Arts Centre (PAC) Alumni Band will be performing live music, adding a vibrant touch to the experience. Complimentary DIY art workshops will be available, offering a chance for the public to participate creatively.

Play Inclusive, Singapore’s largest inclusive sports competition, returns for its seventh edition with a wider array of sports offerings, catering to a broader range of disabilities. Held at the Singapore Sports Hub, the event seeks to promote inclusion in the community by providing a platform for building friendship and acceptance through shared sporting experiences. 

This year’s Play Inclusive is open to members of the public for the first time (only on 3 August), where they can try their hand at disability sports such as wheelchair rugby, goalball, football, cycling, floorball, blind running, boccia and shooting.

Through this, the aim is to encourage greater sensitivity and understanding of persons with disabilities (PWDs), and in turn create a more inclusive society. In addition, there will also be basic health assessments for PWDs, carnival booths, and a concert showcasing individuals with all abilities.

Heritage Activities and More at the Qixi Fest 2024

The family-friendly event, Qixi Fest, returns to Chinatown, bringing with it a vibrant celebration of Chinese cultural heritage, craftsmanship and community.

The festival will kick off on 3 August with the Qixi Fest Street Party at Keong Saik Road, with events and workshops in three clan houses along with fringe activities and stage programmes from 5 pm - 9 pm. From 4 to 11 August, Chinatown Kreta Ayer Square will be home to the Qixi Fest Village with exhibitions on Qixi Festival origins, scavenger hunts, and merchandise booths.

The festival, also known as the “wish upon the stars festival”, dates back to the Han Dynasty, and was brought to Singapore by Chinese immigrant women in the 19th century and became a grand celebration until it faded in the 1970s. 

Qixi Fest was launched in 2023 with talks, workshops, exhibitions, and tours. This year, the fest is back with free and paid activities that are perfect for a family weekend out. The activities delve deeper into skillfulness (乞巧, qiqiao), featuring craftsmanship, intellectual games, storytelling, pastry making and songwriting mastery from local artisans and masters, while showcasing traditional Qixi Festival customs from various Chinese dialect communities.

2024 Kweichow Moutai Cup Singapore Lion Dance Championship

Witness breathtaking auspicious lion dance performances by talented award-winning troupes such as Kuan Feng Arts Centre, Times Cultural Arts, SLT Association, Nam Sieng Dragon & Lion Dance Activity Centre, and more as they vie for the coveted championship as well as usher in Singapore’s 59th birthday. These masters of traditional form are set to enthrall crowds as they leap from pole to pole with their graceful acrobatic lion dance moves.
