The Lunar New Year is a time of celebration where everyone is invited. Joining in on the festivities is Tsuta, who premieres its first yusheng offering to bring some Japanese auspiciousness to the table.

A medley of Japanese pickles, gingers and house-blend plum sauce lend the Lunar New Year staple a Nihon touch. Toss your way to a festive new year with something a little out of the ordinary this year.

Tsuta's Yusheng

The salad of carrot and white radish base is elevated with Japanese elements in the form of Kyuri Japanese cucumber, and Mitsuba, a Japanese wild parsley native to Japan. Adding to the punch are Japanese ingredients like Rakkyo Zuke, a famous pickled scallion with crisp texture from Nikko City, Tochigi, and Beni Shoga red ginger, carefully pickled in plum vinegar, red perilla leaves and umeboshi for stunning colour and delicious brine.

Other items include Kanpyo, a calabash gourd that boasts a unique sweet and savoury flavour as well as Myoga Japanese ginger buds that bloom with a mild spicy overtone. Accompanied by cashew nuts, pomelo, kizami yuzu and fried noodles (made by deep-frying the house special ramen noodles till crunchy), the whole salad is dressed with black truffle oil used in the Signature Shoyu Soba and a housemade plum sauce using Japanese ponzu citrus sauce, for a yusheng you can toss to satisfying heights.

A topping of salmon sashimi ($8.80 for 8 slices; $16.80 for 18 slices), a sprinkling of sesame seeds and white pepper complete the symbolic dish of prosperity.

To add on to the prosperity and deliciousness, extra toppings are available in the form of Scallop Sashimi ($16.80), juicy Japanese Snow Crab ‘Zuwai Kani’ Crab Meat ($21.80) as well as tender Kurobuta Pork Char Siu slices ($13.80). Basic yusheng starts from $39.80, and a recommended combination of yusheng with half portion of salmon retails at $48.
