If you are looking for a unique, screen-free activity to captivate your older kids and teenagers this school holiday, the world-first PORTALS Experience has officially debuted right here in Singapore. Spanning a massive 13,000 square feet on Scotts Road, this immersive walk-through exhibition offers a rare chance for families to step away from digital devices and dive into the tactile, breathtaking origins of legendary fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming universes.

While many modern exhibitions rely heavily on digital projections, PORTALS brings families face-to-face with authentic, handcrafted masterpieces. It is an excellent opportunity to inspire creative kids, gaming enthusiasts, and young artists by showing them the raw, physical artistry that built some of the world's most enduring imaginative worlds.

Immersive Realms & Miniature Worlds

The exhibition is structured as a walk-through journey across eight unique realms, mapping out a timeline from modern-day creations back to the very origins of speculative fiction.

  • Massive Battle Dioramas: Watch your childrenโ€™s eyes light up as they explore three incredibly detailed, massive dioramas. This includes the jaw-dropping Forever War diorama, packed with intricate details that will fascinate anyone who loves strategy, building, or miniature modelling.

  • The Central Archive: A treasure trove housing more than 10,000 physical books and miniatures. It is a stunning visual space that celebrates the authors and worldbuilders who dreamed up these iconic universes.

Original Masterpieces & The Golden Age

At the heart of the experience is a world-class collection of original book cover art. These are the actual oil, acrylic, and gouache canvases that defined the "Golden Age" of sci-fi and fantasy literature.

  • No Replicas or Prints: Every single piece on display in this zone is an authentic, hand-painted masterpiece. Families can view the true scale and texture of the original artwork behind iconic literary covers and the earliest hand-painted designs of legendary Role-Playing Game (RPG) and Trading Card Game (TCG) universes.

  • Celebrating Tactile Art: In an era dominated by AI-generated images and constant scrolling, this section serves as a wonderful talking point for parents to discuss the value of traditional, physical craftsmanship with their children.

Future Singapore: 2126

To celebrate Singapore hosting this global debut, the exhibition features a specially commissioned local series titled "Future Singapore: 2126".

  • A Vision of Home: Created by acclaimed Singapore-based illustrator Kristal Melson (former Creative Director at Facebook and WeWork), this exclusive series features three bespoke pieces that imagine what our city-state might look like a century from now.

  • Vibrant Local Lore: Melson uses her signature electrifying palette to blend local Singaporean culture with visionary storytelling. These unique local artworks are displayed in the exhibition and are available as exclusive merchandise at the gift shop.

๐Ÿ’ก BYKidO Pro-Tip: Parental Guidance Advised - Please note that this exhibition carries an Advisory 16 (Some Nudity and Mature Content) classification, as certain zones explore mature fantasy and sci-fi themes. While younger children are welcome to enter, this experience is best suited for teenagers, young adults, and avid gaming or sci-fi fans. We highly recommend that parents walk through with their children to guide them through the more mature themes.
