Lilytopia is Gardens by the Bay’s first Ancient Egypt-themed floral display inside the Flower Dome, blending colorful lilies, historic architecture, and art.

Venue: Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay
Dates: 21 Aug - 27 Sep 2026
Admission: Standard Flower Dome admission charges apply

Gardens by the Bay has unveiled Lilytopia, its first Ancient Egypt-themed floral display inside the Flower Dome. While Egypt is usually associated with golden desert dunes and weathered stone ruins, this showcase focuses on a lesser-known side of its history: the vibrant, lush gardens and bold colours that originally filled its ancient palaces and temples.

Through a mix of vividly coloured lilies, recreated temple structures, and a dedicated art exhibition, families can explore an interpretation of ancient Egyptian culture brought to life through nature and art.

Ancient Egyptian Gardens & Iconic Landmarks

Ancient Egyptian temples were painted with mineral and botanical pigments showing hieroglyphs and everyday life. Over centuries, these pigments wore away, leaving the bare stone seen today. Lilytopia recreates that lost colour palette through its floral selections and architectural features.

  • Formal Egyptian Garden Layout: The Flower Dome features an interpretation of a traditional Egyptian garden, which was historically walled and built around a central water feature. The central pond pays tribute to the River Nile, the lifeblood that sustained communities and agriculture in the desert.

  • 4.5-Metre Great Temple of Abu Simbel: Dominating the display is a 4.5-metre-tall façade modeled after the famous rock-cut temple built by King Ramesses II around 1264 BC. It features four large seated statues of the pharaoh, making a great backdrop for photos with the kids.

  • Hieroglyphs and Plant Motifs: Inspired by the Temple of Hathor at Dendera, the walls and columns within the display feature colourful carvings and painted details.

  • The Sacred Solar Barque: Visitors can spot a representation of the solar barque, the sacred vessel from ancient mythology associated with the sun god Ra's daily journey across the sky.

Vibrant Lilies & Rare Water Lilies

Lilies of various shapes and shades anchor the entire display, filling the Flower Dome with a sweet fragrance. Featured varieties include:

  • Lilium ‘Watch Up’: Large, upward-facing white trumpet lilies.

  • Lilium ‘Tiny Massive’: A compact lily featuring bright yellow petals with dark centres.

  • Lilium ‘Tropical Dragon’: A distinctive variety with narrow, curled lime-green petals edged in vivid pink.

  • Egyptian Blue Lotus: A highlight of the display, this historical water lily was revered in ancient Egypt as a symbol of the sun and rebirth, and was often included in pharaonic burials.

A Glimpse of Egypt Art Exhibition

Held in conjunction with the floral display, A Glimpse of Egypt is a temporary exhibition running from 21 to 23 August 2026 at the Mediterranean Garden inside the Flower Dome. Featuring oil paintings by Egyptian artist Salwa Elhamamsy, the Impressionist-style artworks offer a contemporary perspective on Egypt's landscapes and water lilies.

BYKidO Tip: If you are visiting during the opening weekend (21–25 August 2026), drop by the area near the Flower Dome exit to pick up a free Tillandsia ‘Sweet Isabel’ air plant. These mini plants are offspring harvested directly from the Supertrees. Redemptions start at 10.30am on 21 August, and 9.00am from 22–25 August. Limited quantities are available each day on a first-come, first-served basis (one per person).
