Blue Beauties - A Floral Journey Through the Ottoman Empire at Flower Dome

Share with other Parents or Go Back

Travel back in time at Gardens by the Bay's Blue Beauties, featuring 30 hydrangea varieties, a recreation of Topkapı Palace, and family-friendly craft workshops.

Venue: Flower Dome, Gardens by the BayĀ
Dates: 26 May - 21 June 2026, 9 am - 9 pm
Admission: Tickets to Flower Dome applies

If you are looking for your next family photo backdrop, the Flower Dome has transformed into a stunning sea of blue and purple. Blue Beauties brings the history of the Ottoman Empire to life, blending vibrant horticulture with Turkish architecture.

The display is built around a recreation of the iconic Topkapı Palace, complete with motifs inspired by the famous blue-and-white Iznik tiles. The cool, symmetrical gardens and flowing fountains offer a tranquil (and air-conditioned) escape, perfect for a weekend wander with the kids.

Cultural Icons and Storytelling

Beyond the blooms, families can explore recreations of Turkish landmarks:

  • The Grand Bazaar: Walk through a representation of one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets.

  • The Maiden’s Tower: Discover the legend behind this famous structure. It is a great talking point for older children—though the story of the Sultan's daughter and the hidden snake adds a touch of ancient drama to the visit!

  • UNESCO Heritage Architecture: See the richly adorned walls and ceramic-inspired art that defined a magnificent civilisation.

Creative Hydrangea Workshops

To make the most of your visit, head to the Australian Garden within the Flower Dome for hands-on activities. These workshops are a great way for children to learn about the science behind the flowers, specifically how soil pH levels change their colours.

  • Hydrangea Bag Charm by Macramenian

    • Use pre-made crocheted tubes to build a botanical flowerhead, finished with paracord and an enamel charm.
    • Date: Wednesday, 27 May 2026, 11.00 am – 5.00 pm
    • Cost: $15 per person (On-site registration required)

  • Hydrangea Clay Painting by Tippsyfingers

    • Use ink pads and sponges to create gradients on a clay hydrangea, then string it with ribbons and beads.
    • Date: Saturday, 30 May & Sunday, 31 May 2026,Ā 10.00 am – 6.00 pm
    • Cost: $15 per person (On-site registration required)

Since this display is heavily focused on "Blue Beauties," dress the kids in whites, pastels, or light yellows. These colours will pop beautifully against the deep blues and purples of the hydrangeas and the Iznik tile backdrops for your family photos!
