Is it already April? Here are some new places and ideas for families to have fun in Singapore this month!

Every month, we put together a list of new places that opened, new events that are happening and simply new ideas to help you bring your kids out and create more family fun. 

You can expect a delayed exhibition that just opened, thematic dining experience, new heritage and learning trails, so much more! 23 to be exact - so let's go and see what type of family fun you can create this weekend! 

1. Have An Exciting Time At The HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens 2022

The HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens will take place from 9 – 10 April at 
the National Stadium at Singapore Sports Hub. An estimated 12,000 spectators is expected to catch the Live action on the pitch and attend the family-themed Sevens carnival each day. 

Not just on pitch excitement, families can also expect an array of family friendly activities such as a bouncy castle, movie screenings and even meet & greets at the 100PLUS Promenade. Music fans will also be entertained by live performances.

Tickets will be on sale from 10 am on 3 April 2022 and the 2-days tickets start from just $25 for youth and $49 for adult! Get them at the official event website.

2. Be Wow-ed At The Brickman Wonders of the World LEGO Exhibition

Involving over 1.4 million LEGO bricks that weigh over 1.4 tonnes, families who visit the Brickman Wonders of the World LEGO Exhibition will have the chance to witness more than 50 jaw-dropping creations of the world’s most iconic landmarks and art pieces. 

Every model is custom built and packed full of fun details to educate, entertain and inspire LEGO fans, young and old! This exhibition took the team of skilled LEGO brick artists and craftspeople almost 5,000 hours to create meticulously! They even had the opportunity to add in interactive elements for the kids - a hunt for Eddie the Explorer, and loose LEGO bricks for kids to share their creativity too! 

3. Explore Sentosa's Heritage On The Sentosa Heritage Trail

Venue: Sentosa Island

The new Sentosa Heritage Trail, developed by the National Heritage Board (NHB) in partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), traces the transformation of the island from a military complex to a leisure destination, uncovers stories of the communities who once lived there, and sheds light on the story of modern Sentosa’s reinvention.

There are 3 suggested routes where you will find 30 heritage sites, 10 heritage trail markers and 20 existing interpretive signs to enrich your family's knowledge of Sentosa’s history. 

Download the Sentosa Heritage Trail’s companion guide and map from NHB’s heritage portal Roots.gov.sg and Sentosa.com.sg and head down to the island to start your exploration!

4. There's Still Time To Have Fun At The Sentosa Photo-Hunt Too!

In collaboration with Sentosa, BYKidO is organising a Photo-Hunt Contest for families to learn more about the heritage and nature on Sentosa, and to stand a chance to win cash prizes too! This contest has been extended to 30 April 2022, giving you more time to head down this month! 

To take part, simply capture a photo of your family with one of the photo spots in the background, share it on Instagram while tagging BYKidO (@bringyourkidout) and Sentosa (@sentosa_island) with the hashtag #LearnWithSentosa. It is that simple - you will stand a chance to win cash prizes worth $900! 

Some of the photo spots include the heritage buildings at Fort Siloso, heritage trees around the island, and more. Get inspiration from other participants here!

5. Meet Sonic and Tails from the new Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Movie

The latest Sonic The Hedgehog 2 will feature new characters from the popular video game and will be launched in cinemas on 31 March 2022. As part of the show's marketing, families will have the opportunity to Meet & Greet with Sonic and Tails at selected cinemas over the first 2 weekends of the show's release.

6. Dine With The Ponies From My Little Pony at Kumoya Cafe Orchard

Kumoya Cafe is well-known for its cute and Instagram-worthy themes that rotate every few months. And in late March, the popular cafe has themed up with Hasbro to transform it's Orchard outlet into a My Little Pony: A Magical Cuteness Pop-up Cafe

The café has been transformed into a magical world land of rainbows, stars and clouds featuring your kids favourite My Little Pony stars, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy and Apple Jack and serves a pony-themed menu that is sure to excite too!

10. Go On A Dialect Tour And Discover The Rich History of Kreta Ayer

The National Heritage Board (NHB) launches a series of new dialect tours of the Kreta Ayer Heritage Gallery and its surrounding areas, titled Discover Through Dialects: Kreta Ayer Heritage Tours. The tours will shed light on the diverse cultural heritage and stories of the precinct.

Great for bringing your parents, these tours will be conducted in Cantonese, Teochew and Hokkien by volunteer guides from NHB’s pool of docents.

11. Visit The New Bedok Reservoir Park Therapeutic Garden With Interactive Rock Garden

The 1,650sqm Therapeutic Garden @ Bedok Reservoir Park overlooks the scenic Bedok Reservoir. As the first therapeutic garden to be built over a former sand quarry, it is designed with stones and boulders incorporated into the garden’s features and amenities to reflect its heritage. 

The most interesting element at the garden is the interactive rock garden, which is a space for visitors to balance rocks. This therapeutic process can also be a great activity to practice patience with the kids as you challenge each other to a game of highest / most stable rock formation. 

12. Make Your Very Own Name Patch Pillow With Crafty Whizz

13. Plan A Trip To New Zealand

From 1 May 2022 at 11.59pm, international visitors from visa waiver countries including Singapore, may travel New Zealand without needing to self-isolate on arrival. You will still need to provide a negative pre-departure test and a negative Rapid Antigen Tests [RAT] on arrival and on day 5/6. 

The opening of New Zealand's border was announced by the government in late March, so if you are thinking of where to go for a family trip, do add New Zealand onto the list too!

Step into the Dino-verse as Jewel Changi Airport introduces their latest digital attraction, the Jewel-rassic Quest - a dinosaur-themed augmented reality (AR) game that brings storytelling to life through the use of technology. 

Using the provided tablet, you will go on an adventure within Jewel Changi Airport. Searching for checkpoints hidden throughout the mall, participants will help the game’s avatar lead, Ranger J99, as she goes on a mission to obtain an AstroJewelYou will get to see magnificent dinosaurs such as the T-Rex and Velociraptor as well as other dinosaur species as they roam freely at Jewel’s indoor sanctuary - the Shiseido Forest Valley and HSBC Rain Vortex.

16. Go On A Easter Egg Hunt At Jurong Bird Park

24. Create An Artwork with a Body-tracking Computer Programme!

Marina Central is proud to present Body, Heart & Soul  – an art initiative designed by Dr Jason Lim of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Ar Asami Takahashi of YUME Architects, in collaboration with Tinkertanker. 

Parents can plan a day out at Marina Square, from now till 18 May, to interact with the art installation, themed Body at PLAY, where through body movements, one can light up the interactive cubes, in response to playful poses and gestures.

Parents can also sign up for the workshop, Programmable Shadows, suitable for children aged 6 to 12 years old. For 1 hour and 15 mins, participants can learn how to use a body-tracking computer programme to create their very own artwork and transform them into shadows that respond to their body motions
