Colourful Upcycled Horticultural Displays at Changi Airport this June

This June holidays, Changi Airport presents a series of vibrant garden displays made from repurposed and locally sourced materials. Inspired by classic children’s toys, storybooks, and garden-themed playsets, these charming installations feature endearing motifs such as a teddy bear, train, ladybug, and flowerpot — perfect for families to explore together.

From now till 30 June 2025, families can enjoy these imaginative displays, which not only captivate with their whimsical designs but also highlight the beauty of recycling and the importance of environmental responsibility.

Garden Displays Across All Four Terminals

Spanning across all four terminals, the displays are crafted using approximately 100 square metres of upcycled textiles — roughly the size of a 4-room HDB flat. Other repurposed materials, including foam, metal parts, and wood, have also been locally sourced to minimise environmental impact.

Highlights Not to Miss

  • Ladybug Display at Terminal 4

A vibrant 2-metre patchwork ladybug takes centre stage at Terminal 4 Departure Immigration (Public). Constructed from layered panels and wrapped in colourful upcycled fabric, the ladybug rests on stylised fabric foliage, surrounded by a cascade of blooming flowers.

  • Train Display at Terminal 1

At Terminal 1 Skytrain Station C (Public), families will find an enchanting fabric train, complete with sunflowers bursting from its steam funnel — a playful nod to both nature and childhood fun.

  • Potted Plant Display at Terminal 3

A towering 2-metre potted plant made entirely of vibrant fabric greets visitors at Terminal 3 Departure North (Public), blending creativity with sustainability.

Designed to evoke a sense of wonder and nostalgia, these playful elements create engaging, family-friendly experiences. Each installation tells a different visual story while maintaining a theme of whimsy and childlike imagination.

A Deeper Message of Sustainability

Beyond their visual appeal, the displays carry a deeper message about creativity, reuse, and environmental responsibility. Textile waste is a significant contributor to global pollution, with synthetic fabrics taking hundreds of years to break down. These installations demonstrate how discarded materials can be given new life through design and craftsmanship.

Nurturing Greenery with Care

Complementing the repurposed elements are live plants nurtured at Changi Airport’s own nursery, many of which have been reused from past events. For example, the potted roses featured in these displays were originally part of the Valentine’s Day exhibit in February. Most plants are cultivated specifically for exhibitions and are returned to the nursery for recovery after each event. Carefully nurtured to bloom again, they highlight Changi Airport’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible reuse.
