Explore the museums of Singapore this January and February, and participate in a great variety of fun and exciting activities that the whole family can enjoy together.

 

1. "Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman"

Who really was Sir Stamford Raffles? Head down to the ACM this February to find out more about this British statesman who was best known for his founding of Singapore (and the British Malaya) in this special exhibition of “Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman”. A collaborative work between the British Museum and the ACM to mark Singapore’s bicentennial anniversary, this exhibition will showcase a multifaceted perspective of Sir Stamford Raffles’ life to better illustrate his often “more complex than understood” legacy.

2. Saturdays@ACM: To Sir (Stamford Raffles) with Love

Worried about the kiddos getting bored and restless at the museum? Fret not! This 23 February, treat your little ones to an exciting and engaging performance at the ACM, and go on a special exhibition tour together with them.

Looking for some chill-out time after an afternoon of events? Simply drop by the pop-up library, where you can sit back, relax and bond with your little one over a book or two.

And yes, a trip to the ACM is not complete without a visit to the interpretive space, where you’ll be sure to find plenty of Instagrammable photo opportunities. So Daddies and Mummies, have your camera phones ready and on hand to capture those precious IG-worthy moments with your LOs (and remember tag #acmsg too!).

 

3. Light to Night Festival 2019 @ ACM – Traces & Echoes

Admission: Free admission to programmes

Come discover more about the history of the Civic District this 25 and 26 January, and 1 and 2 February. Get ready to be enthralled by interactive art installations designed for all ages and enjoy an array of multi-sensory programmes, such as films, performances, and workshops throughout the four nights.

 

4. Straits Family Sunday: Live Long and Prosper

Admission: Free admission to programmes and “Amek Gambar: Peranakans and Photography”

Lovers of Peranakan food, rejoice! Learn to cook your favourite traditional Peranakan dishes through a series of cooking demonstrations held at the Peranakan Museum this 3 February.

Keen to take home a nice and memorable photo of the whole family? Head over to the photo corner and have everyone dressed in traditional Peranakan costumes. Get ready to pose, put on your best smiles, and say cheese! for the camera! 

And that's not all. Get all artsy and let your creative juices flow as you design and decorate your very own porcelain-inspired plate, which you'll get to bring home as a keepsake.

The Peranakan Museum will be undergoing a major revamp to redevelop its infrastructure, as well as to refresh its content and offerings so as to provide a more enhanced experience for visitors.

The museum will be closed from 1 April 2019 onwards will be re-opening its doors in mid-2021.

 

5. Mad For SAM Party

Join the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) for a weekend of fun and party this February to celebrate its upcoming revamp!

Watch as both SAM buildings go “bare” and enjoy a huge line-up of multimedia, immersive and Insta-worthy activities on every level of 8Q. Be treated to performances by various DJs and local bands all night long, and get to bring home unique souvenirs that will serve as great mementos.

So come on down to the Mad for SAM Party and be part of the celebrations this 16 and 17 February 2019. Be there or be square!

Note:
SAM’s buildings (both the former St Joseph’s Institution building and the former Catholic High School building) will be officially closed by the end of February 2019, to make way for redevelopment.

During its building closure, SAM will continue its programmes off-site. One such programme is the SAM Mini Mobile Museum initiative with regional libraries in Tampines, Jurong and Woodlands. Additionally, SAM will also be commissioning artists to create artworks for the hoardings that will go up around its closed buildings during the renovation.
