Bukit Timah Fire Station will be redeveloped as a community hub with nature, heritage and adventure! Great for families!

Parents! Look forward to a new venue to visit as the former Bukit Timah Fire Station is set to be transformed into a community hub for nature, heritage and adventure lovers. Announced on 16 Sep 2021, families can expect an environmentally sustainable lifestyle hub that integrates urban farming, wellness, and nature-based activities, with generous community spaces amidst lush greenery and rich heritage.

Sustainable Lifestyle Hub

Surrounded by greenery, the historical former fire station sits in the vicinity of heritage and natural landmarks in the area – such as the former Ford Factory, Bukit Batok Memorial, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Bukit Batok Nature Park.

Once completed, it will provide families with access to popular recreational trails on the island, such as the 24km Rail Corridor and the 36km Coast-to-Coast Central Trail.

Activities For Families

The tender for the state property will be awarded to Homestead Holland after it had won the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group's "Reinventing Cities" competition, which was organised in collaboration with URA, SLA, NParks and BCA. The competition aims to implement carbon-neutral and sustainable urban features at underutilised sites in cities.

Under the theme ‘Good Food, Good Life’, the winning proposal showcases well-curated community event spaces and allotment gardens designed to promote sustainable food production and reduce food waste. The site will also conduct workshops, nature-based programs and have allotment gardens for visitors to connect with nature in shared open spaces that embrace the surrounding greenery.

Families can expect a vibrant mix of uses such as food and beverage offerings such as farm-to-table experiences, health and wellness events, and nature-related workshops.

The proposal includes a number of community spaces with suggestions on good use of outdoor spaces, with trails and murals to showcase the heritage of the former Bukit Timah Fire Station and its surrounding area.

Expect To Open In 2022

Restoration works for the site are expected to commence around the end of 2021, with the community node tentatively scheduled to open to the public around the second quarter of 2022.
