City Square Mall Playground And More: New Nature-Inspired Play and Wellness Hub

City Square Mall unveils a stunning vertical "Flower" playground, a repurposed EcoTrain, and a dedicated family support hub.

The $50 million makeover at City Square Mall is officially complete, and for parents, the result is a total game-changer. Shifting from a standard shopping centre to a true community-centric "Eco-Mall," the new space focuses heavily on play, sustainability, and family well-being. Whether you are looking for a high-energy outdoor climbing session or a quiet space for developmental support, the revamped mall has integrated everything into one convenient stop at Farrer Park.

Vertical Adventures at the City Green Playground

The star of the show is the brand-new community play space at City Green (Level 1). Replacing the old structures is a striking architectural playground inspired by giant flower petals.

  • The Yellow Flower Tower: This is for the thrill-seekers. Standing three tiers high, it features a complex network of climbing nets that challenge kids to navigate upwards and across. At the very top, kids can peer through a real telescope or use the "talking tubes" to shout messages to parents below. The reward for reaching the peak? A fast, winding spiral tube slide.

  • The Red Flower Tower: Designed with toddlers and younger children in mind, this two-storey structure is much gentler. It offers simple obstacles on the ground level and a shorter slide, making it the perfect "training ground" for little ones not quite ready for the big yellow tower.

  • Sensory & Balance Zone: Surrounding the towers are stepping pods, musical panels for budding maestros, and various hammock swings. The entire area is floored with a soft rubber surface to keep tumbles tear-free.

Nature Walks and Toddler Play Decks

Integrating the mall’s green philosophy, a raised wooden play platform has been built directly around existing trees. This elevated walkway features metal mesh flooring, giving toddlers a unique "treetop" view of the vegetation below. It’s a wonderful, low-sensory way to introduce children to nature while they explore interactive activity panels and a mini-slide.

The CDL EcoTrain: Sustainability on Tracks

Don’t miss the CDL EcoTrain parked at City Green. This is a real, repurposed MRT cabin transformed into a zero-energy climate education hub. Families can join a digital scavenger hunt by scanning QR codes to find "Qwerty" the mascot. It’s an easy, engaging way to teach kids about conservation, and there’s even a capsule ma

Note that the EcoTrain is open from 11 am to 6.30 pm from Tue to Fri, and 11 am to 7.30 pm on Sat and Sun. It is closed on Mondays.Ā

CONNECT @ City Square Mall: More Than Just Shopping

On Level 4 and Basement 2, the mall has introduced a 15,000 sq ft Family Wellness Hub known as CONNECT. This isn’t just retail space; it’s a dedicated zone housing five social service agencies.

It provides a safe, supportive environment where families can access counselling, mental health talks, and parent-child bonding activities. Notable features include the "Playful Hut," a therapeutic space for children, and various developmental programmes like KidSTART. It’s a thoughtful addition that turns a mall visit into an opportunity for family growth and support.

Do take note that parts of the space is by appointment only. Only the entrance of the space, The Meadow and The Canopy are available to members of the public without appointments. There might also be differing operating hours for the various spaces.Ā

BYKidO Pro-Tip: While the playground is the main draw, the EcoTrain is a hidden gem for a quick educational break—just note that it opens on a specific schedule, so check the timings upon arrival! For the best experience, head to Level 4 (CONNECT) first if you need a quieter indoor environment before letting the kids go wild at the outdoor towers.

What to Bring

Ā If you are heading to the outdoor playground, remember to bring your water bottles, insect repellant and sunscreen. A small towel to clean up after is also a great idea!Ā
