Baby Groot takes center stage in his very own collection of five original shorts that explore his glory days growing up—and getting into trouble—among the stars. I Am Groot streams on Disney+ from 10 Aug 2022.
Who Is Baby Groot?
If you don't yet know, Baby Groot was born from the splinters of Groot, who appeared in the 2014 "Guardians of the Galaxy". Using just three little words, "I am Groot", the humanoid tree creature was one of the favourite characters in the film. At the end of the film, Groot makes the ultimate sacrifice for his friends, and Baby Groot—a seedling about 10 inches tall—is born.
In subsequent films, Baby Groot was the ultimate scene stealer, an adorable sapling with anger issues who further endeared himself to audiences - it is like when we see our own children in that toddler / post-toddler phase where it is (still) fun watching their mischievous endeavours - you know, the moment when you are trying hard not to laugh but be angry instead.
One For The Entire Family
Each short is about 3 mins long and tells a standalone experience of Baby Groot. While it may seem to only be for the young ones, the shorts were really entertaining - more so for parents who might just be reminded of the mischief your toddlers have done in their growing-up years.
From getting angry at something that doesn't even have an emotion to destroying part of the ship to make a family portrait, you can just imagine some of these exaggerated scenes happening within your own family too.
We really liked Short 2 "The Little Guy" where Baby Groot discovers a civilisation of miniature creatures - smaller than him, and proceeds to behave like a bully, before being subdued, realising he is actually a hero and finally accidentally "destroying" them. Confused? It is like a scene from bringing the kids to the playground - snatching toys, sharing toys, screaming and crying, as well as laughing and playing in a single outing.
What Was Missing?
When we watched previews of the shorts, we were expecting to be introduced to the origins and backstory of Groot. Instead expect the shorts to be little stories that provide a glimpse into the experiences of Baby Groot's growing up experiences.
