Looking for a holiday without too much stress and planning required? Consider going on a cruise - here's a list for your consideration!

Cruises are perfect for a family getaway and Singapore being in the heart of Southeast makes the perfect location as a cruising hub to explore neighbouring countries or simply go on an idyllic vacation out in the sea. Many cruises dock at various cities or towns of Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, with longer itineraries going farther to India, Japan and Europe.

Check out our pick of cruises focusing on Asia, with lots of fun activities onboard to keep the whole family – kids, parents and even grandparents, entertained!

Disney Cruise

Disney Adventure by Disney Cruise Line’s launch in Singapore must have caused quite some waves back in 2025. Set to be a game changer for family cruising from Singapore, we know of many who have planned or are planning this for upcoming holidays! Bringing Disney’s signature storytelling and immersive experiences closer to home, the ship features 7 themed zones inspired by Disney, Pixar and Marvel we are all too familiar with (both parents and kids alike!). Along with dedicated kids’ clubs, character meet-and-greets and Broadway-style performances, this experience at sea can only be nothing less than magical.

StarDream Cruises

We may be more familiar with Genting or Star Cruises brand, but StarDream Cruises is the current (re)brand after the larger group’s restructure. With a focus on accessible itineraries around Southeast Asia, think along the lines of fuss-free cruising with comfortable cabins, casual dining, and light onboard entertainment suitable for all ages.

We are attracted to it being a practical choice for families trying cruising for the first time with lots of plans for the little ones. Want some alone time? Drop the kids off at the Little Dreamers Club, and let the little ones take part in a whole suite of activities including indoor and outdoor play, stepping into “jobs” of Junior Bridge Officers or Little Butlers, and even celebrating with a graduation ceremony at the end of it all!

Tips and Recommendations

Before you run off to book your cruise, here are some of our tips and recommendations from firsthand experience.

  • Compare – check out promotions that the cruise lines run. 1-for-1 or kids-travel-free are usually the best deals for families.
  • Don't Wait - once you have booked your cruise, check out the possibility of pre-booking activities or meals. Not only will you ensure you don’t forget or suffer admin-fatigue later (no need to fuss onboard!), you may even save some money in doing so!
  • Check Age Limit - There are several that you should check including
    - For boarding: Some cruises have 6 months or 1 year age limitations, so check with the individual cruises.
  • Kids Clubs: If you are looking forward to leaving the little ones at kids play care, there could be a minimum age limit or other requirements e.g. potty trained.
    - Pool access: Be it for kids-only or adult pools, some do not allow kids who are not yet potty trained.
  • Book Early - This includes meals, baby chairs (if provided), kids clubs, sports/games amenities, etc. If not done online prior, do this immediately (or at least once you have settled down) after you have boarded the ship. Trust us, this will make the rest of your cruise easier.
  • Going Onshore – Decide prior if you will be going onshore (if the itinerary has this), so you can prepare a separate day bag with necessities (diapers, hot water flask, water bottle, wet wipes and a million other items).
  • Nursing Rooms – If you need these, check if there is any available and nearest your intended routes. Also consider bringing along a nursing cover to nurse on the go if you are comfortable with this.
  • Strollers and Bag Carriers - We say bring them along, it’s worth the hassle when you need to bring the kids from one end to another end of the ship, or if they fall asleep at weird places!

Get ready for your next adventure and start planning your next cruise holiday!
