2. Experience the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations with Spectacular Lights & Cultural Highlights

Venue: Chinatown Precinct
Dates: Now - 18 Mar 2026
Admission: Free

Chinatown will usher in the Year of the Horse with the highly anticipated Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations from 18 Jan to 18 Mar 2026, transforming the precinct with a vibrant festive light-up inspired by the Year of the Horse, alongside a rich line-up of cultural performances, weekend workshops and the return of the International Lion Dance Competition.

This year’s celebrations will be anchored by the Official Street Light-Up & Opening Ceremony on 30 January 2026 at 6.00 PM at Kreta Ayer Square, marking the formal launch of the season’s festivities.

The 2026 Street Light-Up, themed “Galloping into the Prosperous Year” (äž‡é©Źć„”è…ŸïŒŒć–œèżŽæ–°æ˜„), draws inspiration from traditional Chinese paper-cutting and is centred around a striking 8.8-metre golden horse installation, symbolising momentum, aspiration and collective progress. The illuminated streets across South Bridge Road, Upper Cross Street, New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Seng Street will be adorned with horse-inspired lanterns, auspicious motifs, orchids and layered red drapes, creating an enchanting festive landscape for visitors.

Highlights of the wider programme include the Countdown Party (æ–°æ˜„ć€’æ•°æŽŸćŻč) from 16 to 17 February 2026 at Kreta Ayer Square, and the Chinese New Year International Lion Dance Competition (æ–°æ˜„ć›œé™…ç‹źçŽ‹äș‰éœžé‚€èŻ·è”›) on 7 and 8 February 2026 at the Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre, featuring top troupes from Singapore and across the region.

3. Explore the Spring Blossoms Floral Display at the Flower Dome with Stunning Horse Lanterns

Venue: Gardens by the Bay, Flower Dome
Dates: Now - 1 Mar 2026, 9 am - 9 pm
Admission: Tickets to Flower Dome applies

In the Year of the Horse, eight majestic, life-sized horse lanterns handcrafted by Chinese artisans using techniques that originated in the Tang Dynasty over a thousand years ago take centre stage at the Spring Blossoms Floral Display at the Flower Dome. Admire the horses as they cavort amid plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums and bamboo — plants collectively known as the “Four Gentlemen” of Chinese art and philosophy.

As the Lunar New Year heralds new beginnings and good fortune, the eight horses symbolise strength, vitality and success. The surrounding landscape draws inspiration from the aesthetics of Jiangnan Gardens, celebrated for their tranquil harmony with nature and regarded as masterpieces of garden design. Echoing the Chinese literati of the past, who sought rest and reflection in such spaces, visitors are invited to stroll through moon gates or pause at pavilions while admiring seasonal blooms, including dahlias, and azaleas.

Before you go, beat the Blooming Drum of Spring, decorated with the classic Baoxiang Flower motif where lotus, peony and foliage intertwine, for good luck.

4. Step into the Funfair of Forgotten Futures & Play Your Part for the Planet at Temasek Shophouse

Venue: Temasek Shophouse, Bayan Cove
Dates: 16 Jan - 15 Feb, 10 am - 7.30 pm
Admission: Free

Step right up into the Funfair of Forgotten Futures - a new pop up carnival that engages children and families on the urgency of planet action, through the medium of play.

Created by artist collective and social enterprise Ayer Ayer Project in collaboration with Temasek Shophouse, explore community installations, workshops, and even participate in fun and simple games made from sustainable materials that represent the various environmental challenges.

Using familiar tropes of amusement to evoke a sense of playfulness, the transformed space creates an entrypoint for visitors to appreciate the gravity of the current environment issues that turns it into a site for reflection, resistance, and action.
