With the highly anticipated Singapore Night Festival right around the corner, Peranakan Museum will also be extending its opening hours on 18, 19, 25, and 26 August 2023 from 7 to 11pm, with a series of free exciting programmes. Here's taking a closer look at some of the programmes that you and your family can look forward to:

PORT CITY 2.0 at Armenian Street: Singapore Night Festival

Discover PORT CITY 2.0, where Armenian Street becomes a gateway to new ideas with immersive art portals, multi-genre performances, and eclectic food experiences. Journey through a whimsical street, partake in creative exchanges, and become an inhabitant of the alternate reality of PORT CITY 2.0, part of Singapore Night Festival 2023.

Come dream in the realm of World Beyond, a journey of discovery into an alternate reality. World Beyond is a multi-part installation adapted from a digital artwork, Centre for Altered Togetherness (C-A-T) by artist Reza Hasni and web designer Screensavers, in collaboration with Mama Magnet. The work is an artistic reimagination of our cultural history and artefacts in an alternate fantasy world, where online and offline realities converge. A modern-day marketplace with a difference — will you barter or buy? Local creatives and small businesses offer an eclectic assortment of goods and services available for trade or purchase, inspired by the itinerant hawkers of historic port cities.   

Each booth will offer options to either purchase goods or services, or to barter based on conditions set by the individual vendor. Limited supplies per day!

    • GlobalMat Soul Kitchen x Laut Collective: The maiden alliance between the cult biryani brand and emerging Southeast Asian flavour-makers to commemorate this year’s theme of PORT CITY 2.0.  
    • Flour Department x Pastories: Head baker Julie Tay from Flour Department and upand-coming bakery, Pastories, collaborate to concoct creative, unconventional, and delicious snacks and desserts inspired by traditional Asian flavours.  
    • Community Voices: Arab Network @ Singapore x Helwa Bizz: Sample another culture with lesser-known Arab Peranakan snacks and beverages stepping into the limelight.
    • The Goodburger Food Truck: Plant-based goodies, with local flavours making an exclusive appearance at PORT CITY 2.0. 
  • Official Debut: Peranakan-Inspired Shirt by BERNINA Singapore and Harngover

BERNINA Singapore and local artist Harng Foong, (Harngover) debut their collaborative Peranakan-inspired shirt, handcrafted and featuring motifs found in the Peranakan Museum’s galleries. The shirt’s stunning patchwork design was inspired by a baju panjang displayed in the Batik Gallery. Each patch features a different Peranakan motif, reflecting the diversity and richness of Peranakan culture.

Visitors are invited to digitally draw their own inspired Peranakan motifs on BERNINA’s newly launched Bianco App, which they can then embroider onto a piece of fabric to take home. This workshop offers a glimpse into the processes involved in creating the intricately embroidered shirt and allows visitors to exercise their creativity while learning about Peranakan culture.

Join us for a weekend of discovery as the Arab Peranakan community takes over our spaces to present their unique heritage! Community Voices at Peranakan Museum presents the culture of diverse Peranakan communities, as they share their knowledge with visitors through performances, cooking, crafts, and community-led tours of the museum’s galleries.

This edition of Community Voices is presented in partnership with the Arab Network @ Singapore and in conjunction with Singapore Night Festival.

Check out Arab Peranakan crafts at the Barter and Buy Market on Armenian Street. Have your name hand-lettered in beautiful calligraphy, or try your hand at Arabic keyboard typing on Friday, or come back on Saturday to create your signature scent with a traditional perfume mixologist!

What does it mean to be Arab Peranakan? Members of this community have been in Singapore for more than 200 years, but many Singaporeans know little about them. Join this session with Harasha Bafana, Adni Aljunied, and Muhammad Bahajjaj, as they share interesting aspects about living as Arab Peranakans in Singapore. Moderated by Omar Alattas from AN@S.

Participants will also get to try kopi halia and traditional Arab Peranakan desserts as part of the session!

Discover Arab Peranakan fashion as designers Lulu Alhadad Designs and Ibtiiman Bridal present a stunning selection of their work. This showcase will highlight traditional and modern trends in Arab Peranakan couture. The show will be followed by a Q&A with the designers, who will share the personal experiences that have influenced their careers and designs. Lulu Alhadad will present a  collection of formal and day wear, while Ibtiiman Bridal will present their beautiful collection for brides and grooms.
