A First-of-Its-Kind Mandarin-Led Festival for Kids

Making its debut this June school holidays, Cultural Playground 2026 is the first childrenâs festival by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC). Designed for children below 12, the festival blends theatre, music, storytelling, and interactive play to create meaningful and engaging ways for kids to experience local Chinese cultureâprimarily through Mandarin.
With 16 programmes packed into three days, families can expect a vibrant mix of performances, workshops, and hands-on activities suitable for different age groups.

One of the festivalâs biggest highlights is The Legend of Nezha by Paper Monkey Theatre. This visually captivating performance brings the legendary Chinese tale to life using intricately crafted rod puppets.
Expect more than just puppetryâthis multi-disciplinary show also features:

- Live martial arts performance
- Original music by The Flame of the Forest and Govin Tan

Another standout is the latest edition of The Nursery Rhymes Project by The Theatre Practice.
Titled âImagine Our Songsâ, this interactive performance reinterprets familiar Mandarin nursery rhymes like Xiao Bai Chuanăĺ°ç˝čšăand Mothers Are Bestăä¸ä¸ĺŞćĺŚĺŚĺĽ˝ă through music and storytellingâmaking them fresh, engaging, and relatable for young audiences.
Multi-Sensory Music Workshops for Babies
Even the littlest ones are included. Babies and toddlers (0â18 months) can participate in specially designed music workshops inspired by Xiao Bai Chuanăĺ°ç˝čšă.
