CATS, A Theatrical Legend Returns

One of the most celebrated musicals of all time, CATS, is set to make its highly anticipated return to Singapore this October. Presented by GWB Entertainment, in association with LW Entertainment and Base Entertainment Asia, the production will take over Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a strictly limited season.

This marks the latest chapter in Singapore’s long-standing love affair with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, following its acclaimed runs in 2015 and 2019. Audiences will once again step into the magical world of the Jellicle Cats — a universe where music, movement, and imagination collide.

Step Into the World of the Jellicle Cats

Based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, the musical unfolds in a larger-than-life junkyard playground, brought to life through dazzling sets, imaginative costumes, and high-energy choreography.

On one extraordinary night each year — the Jellicle Ball — the Jellicle Cats gather to share their stories with their wise leader, Old Deuteronomy, who must choose one cat to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and begin a new life.

Beloved feline personalities include Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

A Global Phenomenon

Since its world premiere at London’s New London Theatre in 1981 — where it ran for a record-breaking 21 years — CATS has become one of the longest-running productions in both West End and Broadway history.

The global phenomenon has since been staged in over 30 countries, translated into 15 languages, and seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.

This groundbreaking musical earned the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. Its Broadway production went on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ran for 18 years. Both the original London and Broadway cast recordings also received Grammy Awards for Best Cast Album.

Music That Lives On

Composed by theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), the score features one of the most famous musical theatre songs of all time — “Memory” — recorded by more than 150 artists, from Barbra Streisand to Barry Manilow.

The original creative team include design by John Napier, choreography by Gillian Lynne, and direction by Trevor Nunn.

A Spectacle Not to Be Missed

CATS is, quite simply, a theatrical phenomenon. With its fantastical oversized set, unforgettable score, inspired choreography, and mischievous costumes, it delivers a dazzling song-and-dance spectacle unlike any other.

Blending whimsical storytelling, iconic music, and breathtaking stagecraft, CATS continues to captivate audiences around the world. Whether you’re revisiting a beloved classic or experiencing it for the first time, this is a must-see theatrical event for all ages.
