KOMA Singapore is a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar that is an attraction unto itself. A long tunnel of bright orange Japanese Torri gates that’ll lead you into the restaurant, a colossal Japanese bell overlooking a Japanese footbridge raised over a reflective pool, and glass owls sitting on the bar, all make for a breath-taking sight.

If you can get your eyes away from the dazzling interior long enough to order, you’ll find an extensive offering of modern Japanese cuisine, including sushi, sashimi, nigari, and tempura. Notable on the menu are Salmon Pillow, a puff pastry filled with smoked avocado with a hint of burnt jalapeño, Taro Chip Tuna Tacos, consisting of avocado, jalapeño, lemon, and cilantro, as well as Sesame Profiterole, black sesame choux with white sesame ice-cream and chocolate sauce.

Traditional Pernakan flavors with a modern touch and cosy setting.

The brainchild of Christina Keilthy, Derrick Chew and Frederick Goh, Godmama was born from an inspiration to preserve both the traditional Peranakan flavors as well as the culinary legacy of Christina’s Mama and Godma (hence Godmama, the name born from the confluence of these two words).

This modern Peranakan restaurant serves up dishes such as All Star Egg Skin Popiah, Ngoh Hiang, Babi Assam and Ayam Buah Keluak, in their cosy restaurant. And during the weekends, the traditional menu gets a little modern spin for brunch, offering dishes like Buttermilk Banana Pengat Pancakes and Buah Keluak Bolognese Pasta.

Chic Eatery with French Feels

Who: Merci Marcel
Where:
7-9 Club Street, Singapore 069403
Why:
A little taste of France with its ambience and cuisine.

Merci Marcel’s second outlet at Club Street, while might not have the same Parisian décor and cosy vibes as its first outlet in Tiong Bahru, is still as aesthetically pleasing with its snazzy interior and causal alfresco dining spaces. Whole Catalonia Octopus Leg, Ravioles de Royans and Duck Parmentier façon Marcel, are just some of the dishes of the dishes on the menu of this French café. Maybe when your little ones are at the daycare (or with their babysitter), you can have a rendezvous with your spouse at this chic eatery!
