The National Library Board (NLB), in collaboration with JTC and local board games company Origame, has just unveiled a brand-new Comics and Games Library at Punggol Coast Mall. This exciting pop-up is a treasure trove of over 7,000 comics, game-themed reads, captivating graphic novels, and engaging board games, promising entertainment and learning for the whole family.

A Young Colourful Space

Located conveniently within the atrium of Punggol Coast Mall in the vibrant Punggol Digital District, this isn't your typical quiet library. The space boasts a bright and vibrant design, perfectly capturing the playful and adventurous spirit of comics and gaming. Parents will appreciate the dedicated sections tailored for both adults and children, ensuring that everyone can find something to spark their interest.

There's even a dedicated eReads area for tech-savvy families and a comfortable space to dive into a board game battle!

What Can Families Expect at the Comics and Games Library?

This self-service library is packed with features designed to make reading and playing accessible and enjoyable for young families:

  • A Galaxy of Comics and Graphic Novels: Dive into an extensive English-language collection of popular comics, thrilling graphic novels, and books inspired by your favourite games.   • Kid-Friendly Adventures: A separate children’s collection offers a fantastic range of comics and graphic novels specifically curated for young readers aged around 10 to 12. Get ready to discover new favourite characters and stories!
  • Game On! Board Game Bonanza: In partnership with Origame Studios, the library features a dedicated gaming space with tables and seats where families can bond over a fantastic selection of board games.
  • Local and Regional Board Games: Introduce your children to the joys of collaborative play and friendly competition with games like the Singaporean drink-themed Kopi King, the durian-collecting frenzy of Durian Dash, and many more! This is a fantastic opportunity to discover homegrown game design talent and learn about Singaporean culture through play.
  • eReads at Your Fingertips: Explore a wide selection of eBooks, including titles in Mother Tongue languages, via an interactive touchscreen embedded in a bookshelf. Borrowing an eBook is as simple as tapping the screen to reveal a QR code and scanning it with the NLB Mobile app – perfect for on-the-go reading!
  • Seamless Self-Service: Entering the library is a breeze! Visitors can simply scan their ID or request a QR code day pass. Borrowing books is just as convenient using the NLB Mobile app.
  • A Nod to Local Comic History: Don't miss the special showcase wall featuring donated local comics from passionate collectors. This includes gems like Captain V, Singapore’s first full-colour comic, and Medium Rare, the first Singaporean comic adaptation of a film. While these historical treasures are not for loan, they offer a fascinating glimpse into Singapore's comic heritage.
  • Future of Storytelling with StoryGen: Experience StoryGen, an innovative interactive service by NLB and Amazon Web Services that uses Generative AI to reimagine classic stories in a captivating Manga art style. Let your children's creativity soar as they put their own spin on tales like Wizard of Oz and Sang Nila Utama.
  • Navigating the World of AI: As part of the StoryGen experience, families can also learn about the benefits and challenges of Generative AI.
