Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is proud to present SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates, a vibrant two-day cultural celebration co-organised with Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and SCCC’s arts residents to commemorate Singapore’s 60th birthday. Taking place from 28 to 29 June 2025, this event transforms the SCCC and Singapore Conference Hall into buzzing hubs of Chinese arts, culture and heritage.

What to Expect at SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates 

For the first time, SCCC has curated a free open house event where the public will have the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes, participate in hands-on activities, and interact with SCCC’s participating arts residents comprising Drum Feng, Reverberance, Tampines Arts Troupe and Nam Hwa Opera.

This special weekend also brings together family-friendly performances, hands-on workshops, and ticketed showcases by local Chinese arts and cultural groups. Here are the event highlights you can’t miss:

The Story Keepers

Designed to be an immersive and interactive theatre experience that is suitable for families and children, The Story Keepers invites the you to become part of their mission to collect and safekeep stories, and to learn more about and pass on well-known myths of Singapore, such as the tales of Kusu Island, Redhill and Radin Mas.

You can also create your own unique pens inspired by the traditional chapteh game in a special craft activity at the end of the performance. This 45 minutes long interactive storytelling will be presented in English and Mandarin.

Located at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Concourse, Level 1, this free activity is available on both days at 1pm–1.45pm and 3pm–3.45pm

ArtVenture: From Stage to Behind the Scenes

Specially curated for SCCC’s SG60 celebrations, ArtVenture: From Stage to Behind The Scenes is an open house event where participants will have the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and gain insights into the daily activities of SCCC’s arts residents such as Drum Feng, Nam Hwa Opera, Reverberance, and Tampines Arts Troupe.

Let us show you more details about each Arts Resident:

  • Drum Feng: Drum Feng is an energetic local percussion ensemble group that specialises in both traditional Chinese percussion music pieces and cross-genre work. Participants will be able to experience an exhilarating and fun drumming session with the group. The activity will take approximately 30 minutes from 12pm – 12.30pm.

  • Nam Hwa Opera: Nam Hwa Opera is one of Singapore’s most prominent and prolific Chinese opera troupes. You can try on various opera costumes and props, and learn the basic body movements of different opera characters. The activity will take approximately 60 minutes from 11am – 12pm.

  • Reverberance: Reverberance is a Chinese wind percussion ensemble led by young local musicians. You can try different percussion instruments and join the musicians for a short performance at the end of the hands-on session. The activity will take approximately 30 minutes from 2pm – 2.30pm.

  • Tampines Arts Troupe: Try out Chinese dance props such as fans, handkerchiefs, and umbrellas, while exploring scents inspired by the 24 solar terms(äșŒćć››èŠ‚æ°”). The activity will take approximately 30 minutes from 4pm – 4.30pm.

The presentation will be in English and Mandarin and taking place at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Practice Room, Level 10 for Tampines Arts Troupe and Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Level 11 for Drum Feng, Nam Hwa Opera and Reverberance.

Ode to Singapore by SCO

Specially produced to commemorate SG60, Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s Ode to Singapore is a free concert that will feature the captivating melodies of Zhang Xiaofeng’s Singapura Overture and Gu Guanren’s A Glimpse of Singapore as well as xinyao favourites and familiar local tunes.

One of the concert’s highlights will be the special showcase of selected artworks by 60 young children which depicts their imagined future for Singapore.

This activity is co-presented by: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Singapore Chinese Orchestra and will be held for approximately 60 mins at the SCO Concert Hall. Enjoy the concert for free on 28 June 2025 at 7.30pm. Click here to register.

Taking Flight 2025

A vibrant and youthful dance performance, Taking Flight 2025 is presented by the students from Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre. In line with the show’s theme of "Our Home", these young dancers will reflect on their roots as they share their personal stories of how they pursue their dreams through dance.

Taking place at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium, Level 9, this 2-hour-15-minute Mandarin dance performance is presented under SCCC's Venue Partnership Scheme. It will be held only on 29 June 2025 at 4pm.
