Free & Fun-Filled Holiday Programmes For Kids By National Library Board (NLB)

The National Library Board (NLB) has organised an array of fun-filled activities and programmes at its libraries for the young ones. Programmes include storytelling sessions in English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil, and sessions on clay art, coding, and sustainability. Get ready to learn more, and spark curiosity in your child! All programmes are free.

Here's taking a closer look at some of the programmes and activities:

Storytime (for 4 to 6 Years Old)

Venue: across various NLB libraries

Join us for a session of storytelling for children where we share some interesting and fun tales with children aged 4 to 6.

Video Streaming eResources (for 7 to 17 Years Old)

Available at all libraries and from home, these video streaming eResources offer video content for children and teens.

Access Video on Demand (AVOD) – Just for Kids

Just for Kids has educational videos plus songs, games, and other interactive content that are sure to entertain, educate, and inspire young patrons. The video content available on this platform is rated PG13 and below.

Kanopy Kids

Kanopy Kids is Kanopy's curated collection of streaming video content for children. The video content available on this platform is rated PG13 and below.

medici.tv

medici.tv is home to the world’s largest video-on-demand catalogue in the classical music industry with concerts, operas, ballets, documentaries, master classes and jazz programmes available to stream in high definition (HD). The video content available on this platform is rated PG13 and below.

Online Storytelling Sessions

Enjoy our online storytelling sessions in English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil! These sessions range from 5 to 15 minutes in duration, and are told by librarians, volunteers, and local authors.

Spark!Lab

Spark!Lab is a tinkering space that NLB has set up in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution from the United States of America, and is located at Punggol Regional Library (Level 2).

Children can participate in hands-on activities independently and create innovative solutions to different challenges, such as creating an item that flies through a wind tunnel and creating a structure to balance on a teetering surface. Children are free to try them out at their own pace, guided by questions for each activity. Apart from encouraging children to creatively develop solutions, the activities also encourage family bonding as parents and children can participate in the challenges together.

  • Weekends: 10 am - 8.30 pm
  • Closed at 5 pm on eve of Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year
  • Closed on public holidays

Teens Takeover

A series of workshops, exclusive programmes and activities that appeal to the interests of teens aged 13 to 17, for them to acquire the desired knowledge and skills across multiple subjects when growing up. Please visit Go Library for programme details and registration.

Tabletop Games Festival

Venue: Central Public Library & National Library Building

Get ready to level up your weekend at our two-day festival celebrating all things board games and tabletop games! Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a complete novice, there's something for everyone. Dive into open game play sessions, witness engaging Dungeons and Dragons performances, and experience exciting game demonstrations.

Book of Possibilities at Punggol Regional Library

Connect with your teens by visiting Teenspace at Punggol Regional Library! Located on Level 3, teens may read, study, socialise, and learn at this dedicated space for teens aged 13 to17.

Follow the fictional journey of two teen protagonists as they venture into a creepy “haunted” house through the comic panels, interaction points and bookmarks with Web-based Augmented Reality at the Book of Possibilities, a thematic interactive installation.

StoryGen is part of NLB’s ExperienceIT service to make emerging technologies such as Generative AI accessible to all. Through StoryGen, patrons can add a unique twist to well-loved stories including Singapore folktales, and visualise them through a multimedia experience.

AI Adventurers: The Journey to Create Your AI Companion

Venue: Bishan Public Library, Programme Zone (Level 2)

A thrilling journey where creativity meets technology! In this workshop by SpaceDAO, teens will dive into the fascinating world of artificial intelligence (AI) and craft their very own AI companions. Please bring along your Internet-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets or smartphones and download the SpaceU AI app.

This programme is suitable for teens aged 13 to17.

Book Havens of Bras Basah: Curiocity

Venue: Central Public Library, Immersive Room
Date: till Apr 2026

Book Havens of Bras Basah: Curiocity is NLB’s brand-new immersive installation at the Central Public Library. Inspired by the NLB’s Curiocity initiative, the installation features a nine-minute time lapse projection of Bras Basah's three eras: Pre-War (1930s), PostWar (1970s), and Contemporary (2020s). Through the projection of iconic buildings and animated lifestyles from each era, visitors will get a glimpse of the way of life in Bras Basah, past and present, come to life through an immersive 3D experience. There will also be eight Augmented Reality (AR) points for visitors to scan and explore the area's history.

The Herp Squad and the Mystery of the Missing Bluebird

Venue: Central Public Library, The Submarine at the Children’s Biodiversity Library by S.E.A. Aquarium

Join the Herpetological Society of Singapore in their storytelling session where a baby bird goes missing, and it is up to the forest's finest detectives to solve the case and bring him home! This programme is suitable for children aged 4 to10.

Nocturnal Neighbours – Beyond the Feasts, the Poo, the Fuss Near You
