Let’s be S.U.R.E. together!

Today’s fast-paced digital world presents both opportunities and challenges. To equip everyone, including families, with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving digital world, the National Library Board (NLB) will hold its annual Let’s be S.U.R.E. together! month-long series of free online and in-person programmes from now to 31 August 2023.

The series will provide parents and families with the tools to make informed decisions in an interconnected world, and enable them to learn and use good online practices to safeguard themselves from online harms. The programmes, and pop-up displays at the¬†Jurong, Woodlands and Tampines Regional Libraries, will explore¬†themes such as the impact of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), and provide resources on discerning truth from misinformation through the use of the four S.U.R.E. concepts‚Äď Source, Understand, Research, Evaluate.¬†Here's taking a closer look at some of the key programmes and displays that you can look forward to in this year‚Äôs line-up:¬†

Pop-Up Displays

Venue: Jurong Regional Library, Woodlands Regional Library & Tampines Regional Library

These displays provide a practical guide on how to spot threats of misinformation and scams, as well as good digital habits to adopt for online safety. ‚ÄúS.U.R.E.vivors‚ÄĚ stickers, which teach children how to be S.U.R.E. and spot false information, are also available for collection on-site.

Weekend Pop-Up Event

Venue: One Punggol

A plethora of fun and interactive game stations awaits! Families can pick up valuable tips on staying safe and informed online, and put their information literacy skills to test at various game stations. These include the opportunity to challenge AI image generators with their own drawings.

‚ÄúLet‚Äôs be S.U.R.E. together!‚ÄĚ features 18 free talks and workshops on keeping informed, safe and S.U.R.E. while navigating the online world. These programmes are conducted virtually and on-site at Jurong Regional Library, Punggol Regional Library, Tampines Regional Library, and Woodlands Regional Library from now till 31 August 2023. They include storytime and drama workshops for children, talks on growing up with and understanding AI and misinformation, parenting workshops on cybersafety, and best practices in online security for senior citizens. Let’s be S.U.R.E. together!, organised in collaboration with partners such as the Cyber Security Agency, Kids PlaySafer and Nanyang Technological University, is part of NLB’s ongoing LAB25 (Libraries and Archives Blueprint 2025) Informed Citizenry efforts to empower everyone with the skills to discern information and protect ourselves from online harm.
