The National Library Board (NLB) is once again rolling out its popular Early READ Fiesta, an annual celebration dedicated to cultivating a lifelong love for reading and learning in young families. This year’s theme, 'A World of Wonders', promises an immersive and enchanting journey that transforms three libraries into five interactive 'lands' designed to spark curiosity and imagination in children from 0 to 6 years old and their older siblings.

As parents, we are always searching for enriching, affordable activities during the school holidays, and this free event is a must-add to your calendar. The Fiesta is scheduled across three separate weekends during school holidays, making it a great option to keep the kids occupied too.

What Your Family Can Expect

The 2025/2026 Fiesta is structured around five exciting, interactive lands, ensuring there is something for every child’s developmental stage and interest:

  • Tinker Land: A space dedicated to hands-on building and creating, perfect for developing fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities.

  • Discover Land: Featuring exciting booths from partners like the Science Centre Singapore and the Children's Museum Singapore, where children can make thrilling new discoveries.

  • Knowledge Land: Join special programmes here, including sessions where a real veterinarian shares their daily work, offering a unique educational experience.

  • Sensory Land: An essential area for early development, this land features engaging sensory play stations, ideal for toddlers and preschoolers.

  • Fantasy Land: (Available at Central Library only) A dedicated spot for magical storytelling sessions. There is no Fantasy Land at Woodlands Library or Punggol Library. Instead, storytelling sessions will also be at Discover Land.

The NLB has collaborated with numerous expert organisations, including Soul HeARTful, Art Away Studio, Star Learners Preschool, and Creta Class, ensuring the activities are high-quality, engaging, and aligned with early childhood education best practices.

Featured Programmes: More Than Just Storytelling

Beyond the interactive lands, the Fiesta boasts a range of unique, high-value programmes that parents can sign up for:

  • Bilingual Storytelling: Look out for unique sessions such as "The Happiness Emporium", featuring captivating, life-sized bird puppets.

  • Specialised Learning: Older preschoolers can get hands-on in Book Explorers sessions, where they will learn to create catapults and mazes, merging literacy with engineering concepts.

You may view and sign up for the programmes here by searching for 'Early Read Fiesta'.

The Fiesta Challenge: Earn a Special Token

The Fiesta Challenge is a fun way to encourage literacy. To redeem a special token (while stocks last), families simply need to:

  1. Journey through the transformed lands and complete all the steps of the challenge.
  2. Borrow four (4) books on the same day of your visit.
  3. Show your loans (via the NLB Mobile App or a physical receipt) to the staff at the Redemption booth.

It's a wonderful incentive to kickstart or continue your child’s reading habit!
