Deepavali Happenings At Little India
It is once again time to celebrate the festival of lights “Deepavali”. The Little India Shop Owners and Heritage Association (LISHA) has lined up a series of events and activities that will boost the festive mood and add more meaning to the celebrations. There will be a total of twelve events happening from the now to 3 November 2024.
Deepavali Street Light-Up
Venue: Serangoon Road
Date: now to 17 Nov 2024
Time: 7pm till midnight (Weekdays) | 7pm to 1am (Weekends)
Deepavali is a celebration of light over darkness and literally, it is never complete without the grand light-up of little India. Expect decorative lights to brighten the streets of Little India covering Serangoon Road, from 7pm till midnight on weekdays, and till 1am on weekends.
Deepavali Festival Village
Venue: Campbell Lane

Step into the vibrant spirit of Deepavali at the enchanting Festival Village. Nestled along Campbell Lane during the Deepavali season, the Festival Village boasts a kaleidoscope of stalls offering traditional clothing, delectable snacks, intricate handicrafts, and festive decorations that embody the heart of this joyous occasion. Merchants along Campbell Lane would extend the existing shop spaces to display and sell Deepavali Festive items. Watch the streets come to life with cultural enchantment captivating artistic displays that pay tribute to the rich Indian heritage.
Deepavali Treasure Hunt
Venue: Little India
Date: 28 Sep & 12 Oct 2024
Fee: $10 per pair
To educate the tourists and the general public on Indian tradition and Deepavali, there will be a competitive style of treasure hunt on the 28 September and 12 October 2024. There will be 8 stations spread across the vicinity of Little India. The event would commence (flag off) from Campbell Lane. There will be a total of 25 pairs (50 people) participating each day. Participants will be given a map with the first clue and instructions. They must solve the first clue which will lead them to their respective next station, where they will be handed another clue and some critical information about the Indian culture and Deepavali. Solving that clue will lead them to their next station. Participants will be required to perform a certain task before the clue is handed over to them. The fastest three pairs would win shopping vouchers worth $150, $100 and $50 respectively. This program is open to all, tourists are welcome to participate. There will be a fee of $10 per pair for joining.
Big Bus Tour
Venue: Orchard & Serangoon Road
Date: 4, 11, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25 Oct 2024

Fee: $10 per pax
LISHA will be arranging a Big Bus Tour for the second time for the Deepavali celebrations. There will be 8 dates and two trips on each day (7pm & 8pm) each trip will last for 45 minutes. Join one of the spectacular Big Bus Tours in Singapore, specially tailored to include a special detour through Little India during this festive Deepavali season. Marvel at the beautifully adorned streetlights, a tribute to this joyous occasion. This guided tour which starts from Orchard Hotel will take you on a captivating ride through the key highlights of Little India, wrapping up at Racecourse Road, just outside Gayathri Restaurant. To add to your experience, each participant will receive a $5 voucher from the restaurant. There will be a $10 charge per person.
Parade Of TEKKA RAJA (Mascot)

Head down to Little India on 5, 12 and 19 October 2024, where the beloved "Tekka Raja" mascot will stroll down Serangoon Road, bringing joy to the streets! "Tekka Raja" will also be handing out special Deepavali money packets and posing for photos, so don’t miss this fun opportunity to meet him!
Deepavali Live Cooking With Chef Arifin

A popular figure in local media, Chef Arifin runs a fusion Indian restaurant at Tekka Place and has been featured in the Singapore Book of Records for his signature creations. Known for his passion for teaching cooking techniques and minimizing food waste, Chef Arifin will demonstrate how to prepare an exclusive Deepavali festive dish. Join him on 5 Oct 2024 at Tekka Place and 19 October 2024 at Junior Kuppana from 4pm to 5pm. This event is free and open to the public!
Launch Of Designs On Public Transport
Venue: Harbourfront & Little India MRT Stations
Date & Time: from 11 Oct 2024, 11am (for 6 weeks)
LISHA is collaborating with SMRT to showcase special Deepavali light-up designs on public trains and buses. These designs, accompanied by illustrations and write-ups explaining their concepts, will be featured for six weeks starting from October 11th, 2024. Buses on routes 12, 67, 147, 154, and 167, along with selected trains, will display the festive decorations. Additionally, the walls and steps of Little India MRT Station will be adorned with vibrant Deepavali designs. The official launch, led by Minister of Transport Mr Chee Hong Tat, will take place at Harbourfront MRT Station on 11 October 2024 at 11am.
Deepavali Workshops
Venue: Tekka Place Rooftop Pavilion

LISHA will be hosting two interactive workshops—flower tying and Rangoli (Kolam) —designed for tourists and visitors. Held at the Tekka Place Rooftop Pavilion, each workshop will last one hour, with two sessions available to accommodate more participants. The flower tying workshops will be held at 10am and 11am, while the Rangoli (Kolam) workshops will take place at 2pm and 3pm. Led by professional instructors, participants will receive step-by-step guidance and gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of these traditional arts. Each workshop costs $10 per participant.
Migrant Worker Competition
