For one weekend only, ACM brings you on an otherworldly journey into a realm beyond our physical world and dive into Asia’s rich heritage with special programmes inspired by ACM's collection.

 Asian Civilisations Museum's (ACM), Crossing Cultures at ACM is back on 8 and 9 Jun 2024 with a weekend of performances and activities for families to better understand Asia's rich heritage. 

Live performances set the stage with talented musicians that bring to life a mesmerising gallery performance that weaves a musical tapestry at ACM’s special exhibition Pagoda Odyssey 1915: From Shanghai to San Francisco. Those who’d like to get crafty can also join a beginner’s drawing class where they will learn traditional Thai art and little ones can try their hands at the community building activity and create a brick model of a pagoda.

Divine Connections: Balinese Dance Performance by Eka Suwara Santhi

Dates and Times: 8 - 9 June, 6.30pm
Admission: Free

Enjoy traditional Balinese dance performances inspired by mythological stories and cultural practices. The dance showcase will feature a varied repertoire, including masked male dance and Legong Kraton, originally performed exclusively for royalty. Delight in the dazzling costumes, expressive movements, and ancient stories told through dance. 

Gleaming Guardian: The Illuminated Dragon Dance

Dates and Times: 8 - 9 June, 8pm
Admission: Free

Experience an illuminated dragon dance performance by award winners, Yi Wei Athletic Association. Witness the mesmerising blend of ancient tradition and cutting-edge technology as the LED dragon comes to life in a dazzling spectacle!

Tracing Myths: Beginner’s Thai Drawing Workshop with Dr Irving Chan Johnson

Dates and Times: 8 June, 4pm – 5pm 
Admission: $10 refundable deposit

Learn traditional Thai art with a beginner’s drawing class led by Dr Irving Chan Johnson. Explore mythical creatures prevalent in Thai mythology and learn the basics to the unique style of Thai drawing and painting.

The Frog, the Drum, and the Mythical Bird: Animal Wisdoms and Mythologies

Dates and Times: 9 June, 4pm – 5.30pm 
Admission: $12 per participant

The Frog, the Drum, and the Mythical Bird: Animal Wisdoms and Mythologies draws on collaborative knowledge-making, encouraging participants to engage in deep listening and to be attentive to the natural landscapes we pass through and inhabit.

Workshop participants can look forward to a gallery walk, short writing exercise, collective storytelling, and a short essay film screening.

Brick by Brick: Community building of the Great Wild Goose Pagoda with Artisan Bricks

Dates and Times: 8 – 9 June, 4pm – 8pm
Admission: Free

Dive into the story of Xuanzang, the legendary monk, and his quest for knowledge by creating a brick model of the Great Wild Goose Pagoda with Jeffrey Kong of Artisan Bricks. Unleash your inner architect and help build this monumental masterpiece, one LEGO brick at a time!
