This Deepavali, you’re invited to step into a blooming celebration at the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC). From 27 September to 19 October 2025, the well-loved Deepavali Open House returns with four weekends of vibrant programmes, cultural showcases, and festive fun — all inspired by the beauty and meaning of flowers in Indian culture.
Activities to Look Forward to

Look forward to special night programming on 27 September and 4 October. You can also catch Divine Tales – Special After Dark Drama in the Gallery, an all-new dramatised skit which brings to life the story of Deepavali through music, dance and festive traditions. Free Activities
Free Drop-in Craft Activities and Photo Booth

Venue: Indian Heritage Centre, L1 Lobby

Participate in hands-on craft activities to make your very own clay lotus hanging ornaments, floral tealight holders and Deepavali postcards to celebrate the Festival of Light, and capture a photo memento at our photo booth. Young children can also join in the fun with colouring sheets! This programme is suitable for participants of all ages.
Festive Dress-Up Booth

Celebrate the festival of lights with our refreshed Deepavali activity booklets! This year’s edition is designed just for children, with two versions tailored to different age groups. Each booklet is filled with exciting puzzles, word searches, colouring pages, and a sticker sheet to design traditional Indian outfits.
Through these activities, young ones will discover the stories behind Deepavali; learn about key artefacts in our galleries; explore our newly launched children’s space and make connections to the vibrant Little India precinct. Divine Tales – Special After Dark Drama in the Gallery! (New night programming)

Celebrate Deepavali in the gallery with a special dramatized skit, bringing to life the mythological tale behind the Festival of Lights through music, dance, and festive traditions. This programme is suitable for participants of all ages.
Deepavali Mural and Map
Venue: Little India MRT station
Date: 1 October – 11 November
Time: All day
In partnership with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), IHC has commissioned contemporary artist Jayesh Sachdev to create a modern interpretation of Deepavali inspired by the vibrancy of Little India. Developed in collaboration with the Sunlove Active Aging Department (Depot Height and Serangoon).
The mural features contributions from 60 senior participants, celebrating both community spirit and cultural heritage. Complementing the artwork, the Deepavali map highlights festive activities and key happenings across Little India during the celebrations.
Paid Activities
Traditional Lamp Art Making Workshop

Venue: Indian Heritage Centre, Level 2 Date: 27 & 28 September

Join artist Kanday Anjanappa to learn Tholu Bommalata, a traditional shadow puppet art from India. This beautiful craft features detailed designs and vibrant stories inspired by Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll sketch traditional patterns onto a leather lampshade, add colourful natural dyes, and punch tiny holes to create a stunning glowing effect when the lamp is lit. Take home a unique, handcrafted lampshade that could become your new favourite decoration! This programme is suitable for participants of all ages.
Little India Festive Guided Tour & Banana Leaf Meal

Celebrate the festive spirit of Deepavali on a guided trail through Little India’s vibrant flower stalls. Discover how flowers are used in prayers, rituals, and celebrations, and learn about their deeper meanings in Indian traditions.
Along the way, explore the precinct’s landmarks and trades, and enjoy the sights, scents, and stories that bring Little India to life. End the trail with a six-course floral-inspired traditional feast. This programme is suitable for participants of all ages.
Cooking with Chef Devagi – From Petals to Plate

Venue: Indian Heritage Centre, Level 2 Date: 5 October
Time: 10.30am -12.30pm

Join Chef Devagi for a Deepavali cooking demo featuring edible flowers. Learn how traditional Indian dishes are enhanced with roses, hibiscus, lotus, jasmine, neem, and banana blossoms, while discovering their cultural significance, health benefits, and festive uses.
The demo will showcase a Deepavali-inspired menu including Dried Neem Flower Rasam, Fruit Chaat on Lotus Petals, Banana Blossom Vadai, and Carrot-Rose-Coconut Laddu. This programme is suitable for participants aged 14 years and above.
The Story Behind Deepavali (parent-child workshop)

Venue: Indian Heritage Centre, Level 2 Date: 11 October
Time: 2.30pm - 4.30pm
Admission fee: $20 (one parent-child pair)
Celebrate Deepavali with an engaging storytelling session designed for young children and their parents. Through songs, interactive storytelling, and hands-on activities, children will explore the stories and traditions of Deepavali. The session encourages early language development as little ones naturally pick up vocabulary, gestures, and cultural values while bonding with their parents.
Each child receives creative worksheets and a personalised folder to continue their Tamil learning journey at home. This immersive experience fosters curiosity, builds confidence in speaking and participating, and provides a fun, interactive way for families to connect with Indian culture and the joy of Deepavali.
This programme is suitable for participants aged 3 – 7 years. All children will need to be accompanied by a parent/carer.
