Planning a family trip? Discover 18 must-try rides, shows, and attractions at Universal Studios Beijing for all ages

We didn’t really know what to expect from Universal Studios Beijing, but boy did we have the best time. “It’s so relaxing!”, commented my mother just 30 minutes after we entered the park — indeed, the longest wait we had was 40 minutes over two days. However, we visited in mid-April, which is considered to be the off-peak season. Wait times are expected to go up significantly in the summer!

Fast forward to a week after our trip, and our three-year-old daughter is already asking to go back. Thinking of bringing the family for a theme park adventure? Here are 18 family-friendly rides, shows and attractions at Universal Studios Beijing that the whole gang will love.

But before diving into the rides, check out the height requirements guide to see which rides and shows your kids can enjoy!

1. Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior

Boat rides are such a great way to let the legs rest after so much walking. Plus, they’re great for little ones; it’s a total win-win! Join the likes of Po and the Furious Five kung fu masters as they search for, and battle it out, with Kai the villain. The special effects are on point, and there’s even a gentle dip towards the end!

2. Lanterns of Legendary Legends

We’re not going to lie, this was one ride that we wish had gone on for a longer period of time. Climb into a basket attached to a glowing lantern, and soar above Kung Fu Panda land.

3. Carousel of Kung Fu Heroes

Is your child team Po, team monkey, or team Master Shifu? They’ll find all their favourite characters at this carousel! Just hop on, and off you go.

4. Loop-Dee Doop-Dee

This steel rollercoaster is located indoors, making it a fun ride no matter the weather. Hold on tight as you twist and turn, before barrelling through the Super Silly Creature’s mouth.

5. Super Swirly

Choose your favourite coloured creature, and use a lever to fly into the air! We wished this went on for longer too, but it was fun whilst it lasted.

6. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Identical to the ride in Universal Studios Singapore, this ride transforms riders into minions. See things from a different perspective as you go through minion training, and help to retrieve a present Agnes prepared for Gru. There are motion and stationary seats available, so the whole family can join in the fun!

7. Bumblebee Boogie

For those familiar with Disneyland, this is basically the Transformers version of the teacups ride. Spin around in circles as you dance along to DJ Bumblebee’s tunes.

8. Jurassic World Adventure

Experience an ominous storm, during which the ferocious Indominus Rex escapes. Will you make it out unscathed? The dinosaurs are the most realistic that we’ve ever seen, which might scare some kids. Otherwise, it’s an impressive must-ride!

9. Jurassic Flyers

Our daughter is really into fast-paced rides, so Jurassic Flyers is right up her alley. Whip along a track (that goes both indoors and outdoors!) with your feet dangling in mid-air. Each glider swivels on its own axis too, offering double the fun.

10. SING! On Tour

Get ready to sing your hearts out with the lovable characters from the movie SING!. The show is highly entertaining, and will delight both adults and children alike.

Tip: Sit along the aisles for the chance to score a high-five from Johnny the mountain gorilla.

11. Universal On Parade

We love, love, love this parade! Be treated to a spectacle of all your favourite Universal characters atop elaborate floats. This is a high-energy party that you won’t want to miss. Plus, it’s super endearing to watch your kids wave happily at all the characters.

Tip: Unlike other parks, it’s really easy to get a front-row spot. The parade starts from the beginning of Hollywood Boulevard; snag a spot here if you’d like to head off quickly after the parade for more rides and shows.

12. Untrainable

This is, in our opinion, one of the best shows in the park. Be transported to the land of Berk, and meet all their dragons. The highlight of the show comes when Hiccup and Toothless start soaring right above your heads!

13. Minions Cream Soda Show

Get your dancing shoes on, it’s time to party. Watch as Stuart and Kevin face off in a fun dance battle. Who will prevail — team ice cream or tea soda?

14. Waterworld Stunt Show

Inspired by the movie, Waterworld is a daring display of stunts that will keep you right on the edge of your seat.

Tip: Sit in the no-splash zone if you’re not prepared to get wet.

15. Triwizard Spirit Rally

Cheer on the wizarding students from the visiting Beauxbatons and Drumstrang schools, as they prepare to battle it out for the Triwizard cup.

16. Nighttime Magic at Hogwarts Castle

Watch the Hogwarts castle come to life with a dazzling display of light, colour, and music. It looks absolutely gorgeous when all lit up at night!

Tip: There are three showings every night (varies with park day); arrive around 30 minutes before to secure a good spot. If the area in front of the castle fills up, you’ll be asked to wait outside until the next showing.

17. Lights Camera Action!

Co-hosted by Steven Spielberg and Zhang Yimou, Lights Camera Action! packs a punch by allowing guests to have a front-row of how soundstages function. Watch as it gets taken apart by a hurricane right before your eyes!

18. Raptor Encounter

Have the chance to interact with Blue the velociraptor, and take a photo with it — if you dare. The dinosaur is incredibly realistic, which might admittedly scare younger children. Our daughter tried her best to hold it together as Blue roared right behind her!
