The new Large Families Scheme in Singapore provides $1,000 in LifeSG credits for each third and subsequent child aged one to six, along with a doubling of the CDA First Step Grant and a new MediSave grant.

Great news for parents with three or more young children in Singapore! The government has rolled out a new scheme to provide additional financial support, with a focus on alleviating the costs of raising a large family.

We've got all the key details you need to know about the new Large Families Scheme and the S$1,000 LifeSG credits now being disbursed.

What is the Large Families Scheme?

As part of the government's renewed efforts to support large families, parents with three or more children are now eligible for a special disbursement of S$1,000 in LifeSG credits.

These credits are specifically for each third and subsequent child in the family, as long as they are between the ages of one and six. The credits are intended to be a yearly payout for each eligible child until they turn six.

When will the Credits be disbursed?

The first payouts will be made from 10 Sep 2025 to large families for each third and subsequent child aged 1 to 6 in 2025. Subsequent payments will be in April annually to large families for each third and subsequent child aged 1 to 6 in the same year.

Who is Eligible for the Scheme?

To qualify, your third or subsequent child must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

  • Your child is a Singapore citizen.
  • Your child is 1 to 6 years old.
  • Your child is enrolled into the Baby Bonus Scheme.

LFLC will be paid every year to the CDA trustee of the eligible child in MSF’s records as of the eligibility assessment date. The following requirements must be met:

  • For married couples or widowers, there must be 3 or more living Singapore citizen children tied to the CDA trustees in the couple pair. The children must be related by birth, adoption, or step-relations.
  • For divorcees, there must be 3 or more living Singapore citizen children tied to them as the CDA trustee. The children must be related by birth, adoption, or step-relations.

To receive LFLC, families must meet the eligibility criteria by 1 March every year to receive LFLC in April of the same year.

However, the first LFLC payment in 2025 will be made from 10 September to families who meet the eligibility criteria by 1 August 2025.

How to Access the Credits and What They Cover

The good news is that this disbursement is automatic! The Large Family LifeSG Credits (LFLC) will be paid into the LifeSG app digital wallet of the eligible child’s Child Development Account (CDA) trustee.

You'll be notified by an SMS from 'gov.sg' once the funds have been credited. Remember to be vigilant against scams and only trust messages from this official sender.

Once credited, you can access the funds through the LifeSG app. These credits are incredibly versatile and can be used to help with a wide range of household expenses. From groceries and pharmacy items to utilities and transport, you can use the credits at any merchant that accepts payment via PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR.

More Support Under the Large Families Scheme

The LifeSG credits are just one part of a more comprehensive support package. The new Large Families Scheme, first announced at Budget 2025, also includes

  • a doubling of the CDA First Step Grant to S$10,000
  • eligible mothers with three or more young children will also receive a S$5,000 Large Family MediSave Grant, which will be credited to the mother's MediSave account. This grant can be used to help offset pregnancy and delivery expenses or healthcare costs for family members.

Beyond government grants, Families for Life also partners with various merchants to offer special deals for large families on everything from groceries and diapers to family activities and dining perks. These efforts are all part of a concerted push to make it easier and more affordable for couples who have or aspire to have three or more children.

It's a fantastic step forward in recognising and supporting the unique needs of larger families in Singapore. Refer to here for more details about the Large Families Scheme.
