Good news to Singaporeans! Reading adventures are now closer than ever with the launch of NLB’s new Sci-Fi Pop-up Library alongside three new Sit-n-Read Nodes. This is part of NLB’s ongoing efforts to champion reading in Singapore by making reading more exciting, accessible, and integrated into everyday spaces.

Discover Sci-fi Reads at the Sci-Fi Pop-up Library

Located on Level 4 of Parkway Parade, the Sci-Fi Pop-up Library invites you to step into a futuristic reading adventure with close to 4,000 sci-fi books, graphic novels, and comics for readers of all ages. Created in collaboration with Parkway Parade and supported by The Imaginariad, the space celebrates the magic and legacy of science fiction and fantasy storytelling.

As you enter the pop-up library, you’ll be surrounded by futuristic chrome walls and glowing green-neon lights that make you feel as though you’ve stepped straight into your favourite sci-fi universe. You can also use the interactive eReads screen to conveniently borrow and read sci-fi eBooks while on the go.

Your journey continues with a sci-fi themed exhibition curated with support from The Imaginariad, marking the first exhibition ever housed within an NLB pop-up library. Here, you can discover original paintings featured on iconic sci-fi book covers, including The Icarus Twin by Timothy Zahn and The Drowned World by J. G. Ballard, alongside themed artworks and collectible figures inspired by stories from the library’s collection.

You’ll also get to explore different sci-fi subgenres such as space opera, dystopian worlds, and cyberpunk while learning more about the stories that inspired these imaginative works. Beyond international titles, the exhibition also lets you discover how sci-fi grew in Singapore and introduces you to books by local sci-fi authors like Judith Huang and Vivian Teo.

The Sci-Fi Pop-up Library will run daily from 14 May 2026 to 11 April 2027, from 10am to 10pm, with even more titles progressively added to the collection over time.

More Sit-n-Read Nodes and Pre-Loved Booked Around Singapore

Beyond the Sci-Fi Pop-up Library, NLB is also expanding its network of Sit-n-Read Nodes across Singapore, bringing even more reading spaces closer to neighbourhood communities.

New Sit-n-Read Nodes can now be found at Century Square, City Sprouts Bedok, and The Cove at Waterway Point. Together with existing locations around Singapore, you can now access more than 6,000 pre-loved books across ten Sit-n-Read Nodes islandwide.

The best part? You can freely pick up books to read and even bring them home without needing to borrow them officially. Note that visitors are encouraged to return the books afterwards so others can enjoy them too, making these reading spaces a wonderful community-sharing initiative for families and readers of all ages.

Discover StoryGen and Interactive AI Experiences

Another exciting highlight to look forward to is StoryGen, where you can discover well-loved stories through Generative AI and watch them come alive in an immersive visual experience. Besides being fun and interactive for both kids and adults, the experience also helps you learn more about how Generative AI works, including both its possibilities and challenges, through educational displays and resources from National Library Board.

To enter the library, you can simply scan your library-compliant ID card, NLB eCard, or request a QR code day pass. Once inside, you’ll be able to browse and borrow books conveniently through the NLB Mobile app, and return them later at any NLB library across Singapore.
