The National Heritage Board (NHB) invites all to a fun weekend of public programmes with Let’s Embrace – Celebrating Harmony!

This weekend, in celebration of Singapore’s annual Racial & Religious Harmony Month, NHB’s Heritage Institutions – the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC), Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), and Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) – together with the Eurasian Association (EA), will bring the festivities out into the heart of the community for the first time at Our Tampines Hub.

More About The Event 

From 13 to 14 July 2024, Let’s Embrace – Celebrating Harmony will feature exciting activities for all ages where parents can bring their kids and look forward to specially commissioned performances, cultural workshops, travelling exhibitions and displays, a community mural painting workshop, and more will highlight the rich cultures and heritage of our various communities. 

The highlight of the event is The Human Library: Meet a Museum Minion, where you can get to know more details about the jobs and roles in a museum. Visitors will get to speak and ask questions to the curators, programmers, conservators, and collections management officers from IHC, MHC, SYSNMH, EA and NHB’s Heritage Conservation Centre about their work behind-the-scenes, and how these different roles contribute to telling the stories of their communities’ culture and heritage.

The Human Library: Meet a Museum Minion will take place at Our Tampines Hub - Festive Walk on 13 & 14 July 2024 at 1 - 2 PM and 3 - 4 PM. The admission is free and everyone can join!

  • Our Common Ground: A Neighbourhood Adventure Display

Visitors are also invited to discover how the stores around the neighbourhood become common spaces where people from all walks of life mingle and each a microcosm of multiple cultures, displaying objects related to culinary heritage, patterns and motifs, and traditional sports and games.

Come visit with your family and friends to learn more about Singaporean’s rich cultural heritage and the ties that bind us! You can join it on 13 & 14 July 2024 from 11 AM to 7 PM at Our Tampines Hub – Festive Walk.

  • The Good Hood: Where Values Come Home Travelling Exhibition

Some fundamental values are shared across different cultures through this exhibition which will be presented by Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Indian Heritage Centre & Malay Heritage Centre. You will meet values that hold a special place in the hearts of many Singaporeans, such as loyalty, filial piety, and perseverance.

The exhibition encourages families to interact and play with the exhibition, while they learn and explore the essential values important to various communities in Singapore. This also will be on 13 & 14 July 2024 from 11 AM to 7 PM at Our Tampines Hub – Festive Walk.

  • Let's Embrace - Celebrating Harmony 2024

The Racial Harmony Day cultural concert which hosted by Mediacorp radio DJs Kather from Oli and Catherine Robert from Class 95 will feature an entertaining medley by local artistes Taufik Batisah and Suthasini, and Mediacorp artistes Elvin Ng and Daryl Ann. 

Moreover, there will be music, dance, and martial arts performances by various ethnic cultural groups. You can enjoy the concert on 13 July 2024 from 5 to 6 PM at Our Tampines Hub, Town Square.

  • Multilingual Storytelling Sessions

The multilingual storytelling at Tampines Regional Library will bring stories to life for families. The stories will be conducted in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil. Each session is 40 minutes long and will occur in different time starting from 11 AM to 4 PM. You can enjoy it on both days, 13 & 14 July 2024. It is free admission with on-site registration (limited spaces).

  • Project Embrace V2! A Community Mural Painting Activity

Unleash your creativity and create an urban installation that reflects the richness of multicultural Singapore by painting on steel panels that will eventually be used to beautify MRT pillars. The mural painting activity will take place at Our Tampines Hub - Festive Walk on 13 & 14 July 2024 from 11 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 6 PM and the workshop will be conducted in English. Register required here so make sure to not miss out!

  • Multicultural Cooking Workshop

Presented by Our Tampines Hub for all food lovers, you are also invited to savour mouth-watering delicacies at the Multicultural Cooking Workshop. Indulge in the vibrant tapestry of Singapore's heritage as you savour local delights inspired by the diverse cultures. Sample mouth-watering delicacies from Indian, Malay, Chinese, and Eurasian cuisines, while discovering the fascinating stories and traditions behind each dish.

There will be a Chicken Biryani Cooking Demo, Chicken Rendang Cooking Demo, Steamed Chicken Rice Cooking Demo, and Devil’s Curry Cooking Demo which will take place on 13 & 14 July 2024 from 10 AM - 12 PM and 2 PM to 4 PM at Our Tampines Hub - Level 3 Wellness Centre.
