Pretty soon, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Japan will not be the only place for Japan’s Harry Potter fandom to experience the wizarding world. It will soon be joined by a new theme park based on the Harry Potter films.

The park, set to open in the first half of 2023, will be constructed on the site of Toshimaen, a 94-year old amusement park in Tokyo that will be permanently closing its doors end of August announced Kyodo News.

However, you might be a little disappointed if you were expecting thrill rides. According to Nikkei, the new Harry Potter theme park will be similar to the "Warner Bros. Studio Tour -- The Making of Harry Potter" in London, where visitors will be able to tour movie sets.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. will be running the Harry Potter theme park on part of the soon-to-be-closed Toshimaen land under the lease of Itochu Corp. Kyodo News reports that the Tokyo metropolitan government has bought the remaining land from Seibu Railway Co. to build a park that is also to serve as an emergency shelter.

Toshimaen, which first opened its doors in 1926, is one of the largest amusement parks in Tokyo. The wooden Carousel El Dorado built in Germany is one of the highlights among its more than 30 rides and attractions in the parks. It was also well-known for its wave pools and water slides that open in the summer.
