Getting Around in Johor Bahru

You’ve arrived in Johor and there are things to do, places to go and food to try out but how do you get around to doing all that? Well, here are your options.

1. By Walking

You do have the option of walking to your destinations, although we do not really recommend it as it is not really convenient. Should you choose to walk, there are walkways and underpasses that you can make use of and always keep an eye on the traffic to be on the safe side.

2. By Driving

You can drive or rent a car to navigate the roads of Johor Bahru, which is a pretty neat idea if you plan to zig-zag your way across other parts of Malaysia. With the guidance of GPS, you don’t have to worry much about finding your way in a foreign land. But don’t just rely on your GPS and also be sure check the signs and directions along your way, especially if you’re not really familiar with the roads. You don’t want to end up in Pontian when you’re on the way to Puteri Harbour.

3. By Bus

You can easily hop on a bus to your desired destination at the JB Sentral Bus Terminal, which is about a 5 to 10 minutes’ walk from the JB Checkpoint. Let the bus driver know where you’re headed and they’ll let you know the correct fare.

If you’re looking to travel on a bus from a different part of Johor Bahru, look out for where the crowd gathers and be sure you’re boarding in the right direction because you’re quite unlikely to find a distinct indication of a bus stop.

4. By Taxi

Taxis, your ticket to a convenient trip around Johor Bahru with your little munchkins. It’s easy when all you have to do is hail a cab, jump aboard and sit comfortably till you reach your destination.

One thing to note if you decide to travel via a taxi is that while the taxi drivers are legally required to use meters and many of them do, some might try to negotiate a fixed fare for your journey. It is your choice whether you want to take them up on their offer or try another cab that is metered. However, be sure to confirm with the driver, if it’s a metered or fixed fare ride before your trip.
