Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) has lined up an array of programmes, catered to both the young and not-so-young.

Located by the Singapore River is the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), Singapore’s national museum of Asian antiquities and decorative art and the only museum in Asia devoted to exploring the rich artistic heritage of Asia. 

It regularly hosts programmes and exhibitions to inspire both the young and old. Here's what you and your family can look forward to in July and August 2022.

All programmes are free unless otherwise stated.

ACM Adventures: Beautiful Batik

This July, discover the tradition and beauty of batik. Catch a drama performance, go on a storytelling tour, and get creative with a craft activity inspired by traditional batik design. Don’t forget to catch Batik Kita, our special exhibition! 

Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities Curator Tour

Explore the spectacular world of historical and contemporary batik with exhibition curator Lee Chor Lin.

Embracing Batik Weekend Festival

Fee: Free admission to most programmes

Enjoy performances and activities inspired by batik, from keronchong performances and craft and design sessions to batik wearing workshops.

ACM Adventures: Dagger of Power!

What is sharp, pointy, and has magical powers? This month, learn about the history and significance of the kris through storytelling and drama performances. Then, design your own special dagger.

Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities

In celebration of our shared Southeast Asian heritage, ACM presents Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities, featuring over 100 pieces from overseas and local lenders, as well as many from our National Collection. These cloths and clothing items tell stories about making, wearing, and trading batik. Step into our feast of visual splendour to explore the rich history and culture of batik and batik making.

The Batik Workshop (Interpretive Space)

Venue: Asian Civilisations Museum, ACM Website

Time: Sat to Thu, 10am to 7pm | Fri, 10am to 9pm 
Fee: Free

Pop by the interpretive space at the Level 2 Shaw Foyer to learn how batiks are patterned and dyed — from the tools and materials to the meanings behind the motifs. Then try creating your own digital batik cap (stamped batik) at The Workbench.

Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities Activity Trail

Venue: Asian Civilisations Museum, ACM Website

Time: Sat to Thu, 10am to 7pm | Fri, 10am to 9pm 
Fee: Free

Explore batik patterns and fashion in this family friendly activity trail. Trail is suitable for ages 7 and up, and available in English or Malay both online and onsite.

ACM 25th Anniversary

This year, ACM is celebrating its 25th anniversary and the year-long celebrations include a giveaway where participants stand to win an instant camera and exclusive ACM merchandise.

Also look forward to the launch of unique ACM merchandise from Supermama, the Singapore design and lifestyle goods brand at ACM, and go behind the scenes of the museum with a mini-series documentary, which will be available on the museum's social media channels.

Clothing the Pandemic: A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World

Clothing the  Pandemic: A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World is a virtual exhibition of face masks collected by numerous museum curators for their institutions to document the material culture of the pandemic during 2020-2021. Over 100 masks have been curated into six major themes: Art & Intervention; Politics & Protest; Solidarity & Communities; Body & Spirit; Innovation & Sustainability; and Fashion & Pop Culture. 

Visitors can look forward to viewing six masks contributed by Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum. 

At its core, this virtual exhibition highlights the importance of museum  collections as sources of inspiration that embrace current events and  celebrate contemporary fashion and design.

This virtual exhibition is organised by by the International Committee ICOM for the Museums and  Collections of Costume, Fashion and Textiles (ICOM Costume).
